Review Meta Analysis
Effects of myo-inositol vs. metformin on hormonal and metabolic parameters in women with PCOS: a meta-analysis.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is the most prevalent hormonal disorder in females. Over the years, metformin (MET) has become the first-line choice of treatment; however, due to its gastrointestinal side effects, a more recent drug, myo-inositol (MI), has been introduced. We aim to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the effects of MET and MI on hormonal and metabolic parameters. ⋯ Our meta-analysis comparing hormonal and metabolic parameters between MET and MI did not show much significant difference, indicating both drugs are equally beneficial in improving metabolic and hormonal parameters in patients with PCOS.

Urachal remnants are a rare congenital defect resulting from failure of obliteration of a fibrous tube that connects the umbilicus to the bladder dome during embryological development. Oftentimes a urachal remnant will go undiagnosed, but occasionally a patient may present with a variety of symptoms, ultimately leading to the identification of the remnant. Given its rarity, there is very limited literature available on the management of symptomatic urachal remnants, especially in adults. Surgical resection has been the first-line management of urachal remnants for years, especially given the risk of the development of urachal adenocarcinoma secondary to recurrent infection, persistent irritation, and urinary stasis associated with some urachal remnants. ⋯ There is a paucity of data available on the management of urachal remnants in the adult population; however, an endoscopic or laparoscopic approach is a safe and effective method of excising symptomatic urachal remnants.

We summarized through systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies the risk of mortality as well as severe illness of COVID-19 caused by omicron variant relative to delta variant of SARS-CoV-2. A total of twelve studies were included. Our results showed significantly reduced odds of mortality (pooled OR = 0.33; 95% CI: 0.16-0.67) and significantly reduced odds of severe illness (pooled OR = 0.24; 95% CI: 0.21-0.28) in patients infected with the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 relative to their counterparts infected with the delta variant. Findings of lower disease severity following infection with the omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 than the delta variant are encouraging during the ongoing transition from the pandemic phase into the endemic phase of COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic saw the migration of many physiotherapy-led group exercise programmes towards online platforms. This online survey aimed to ascertain the patients' views of online group exercise programmes (OGEP), including their satisfaction with various aspects of these programmes, the advantages and disadvantages and usefulness beyond the pandemic. ⋯ Patients expressed high satisfaction rates overall with online classes, but would value more opportunities for social interaction. Although 50% of respondents would choose in-person classes in the future, offering both online and in-person classes beyond the pandemic may help to suit the needs of all patients and improve attendance and adherence.
