Total hip replacement (THR) is one of the most common surgical procedures performed worldwide. The controversy surrounding the relative merits of a cemented composite beam or cemented taper-slip stem in total hip replacement continues. Our aims primarily were to assess the 10-year outcomes of cemented stems using Charnley and Exeter prostheses with regional registry data and secondarily to assess the main predictors of revision. ⋯ There is no significant difference between cemented Charnley and Exeter stems; they both perform well above the international average. The decline in the use of cemented THA is not fully supported by this regional registry data.

Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) is a progressive necrotizing retinitis caused by viral infection. Optimal management strategies have not been established for this detrimental disease. Previous literature published suggests that Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV1) are the most common promoters of acute retinal necrosis (ARN). ⋯ Our review found increased incidence of CMV-positive ARN. Patients with zone 1 disease had worse initial visual acuity. Moreover, patients had more favorable outcomes with V2T and V9B compared to V1T. CMV-positive patients clinically worsened after intravitreal steroid injections, further underscoring the value of a PCR diagnosis to tailor the patients' treatment plan accordingly.

Reminiscence therapy relieves anxiety, depression and boosts spiritual well-being in both stroke patients and their spouse caregivers: a randomized, controlled study : Reminiscence therapy in stroke patients/caregivers.
Reminiscence therapy (RT) is a common nursing care program to ameliorate psychological disorders, while its application in stroke patients and their spouse caregivers is rare. Thus, this randomized, controlled study intended to investigate the influence of RT on anxiety, depression, and spiritual well-being in these individuals. ⋯ RT relieves anxiety, depression and boosts spiritual well-being in both stroke patients and their spouse caregivers.

The occurrence of p53 loss of heterozygosity (LOH) is a common genetic event in malignancy. LOH occurs when a heterozygous locus loses one of its two parental alleles, becoming homozygous at that locus, by either copy number loss (CNL-LOH) or by becoming copy number neutral (CNN-LOH). A role for CNL-LOH (cnLOH) has been postulated in cancer aetiology. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) results in irreversible genetic loss. ⋯ The results reported herein endorse the value of utilizing FFPE DNA in identifying LOH as a prognostic factor in LMS. The results have implications for tumour biobanking and precision medicine in patients with sarcomas.

Circular RNA_0007841 (Circ_0007841) facilitates multiple myeloma (MM) progression and resistance of the bortezomib by experimental studies, while its clinical implication in MM patients is still unclear. This study intended to evaluate the longitudinal change and prognostic role of circ_0007841 expression in MM patients receiving bortezomib-based induction therapy. ⋯ Circ_0007841 quantification during induction therapy may reflect the response and survival benefits to bortezomib-based regimen in MM patients.
