Hypermagnesemia is one of the vital electrolyte disturbances and is associated with such chronic conditions as cardiovascular, endocrinologic, renal diseases, and malignancy. ⋯ Hypermagnesemia is associated with poor prognosis independent of comorbidities. Besides hypomagnesemia, hypermagnesemia should be considered a critical electrolyte imbalance.

Meta Analysis
A systematic review and meta-analysis assessing the use of tranexamic acid (TXA) in acute gastrointestinal bleeding.
Gastrointestinal bleeding results in significant morbidity, cost and mortality. TXA, an antifibrinolytic agent, has been proposed to reduce mortality; however, many studies report conflicting results. ⋯ TXA does not reduce mortality in patients with acute upper or lower gastrointestinal bleeding and may confer an increased risk of seizures. The authors do not recommend the use of TXA in acute gastrointestinal bleeding.

To evaluate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on the frequency and duration of attacks in patients of PFAPA syndrome with low vitamin D levels. ⋯ In PFAPA patients with low vitamin D levels, the frequency and duration of PFAPA attacks were reduced with vitamin D supplementation. Especially at vitamin D level cut-off > 29.7 nmol/L, the frequency of attacks reduced significantly.

Maternally inherited non-syndromic hearing loss is linked with mitochondrial DNA mutations. ⋯ The m.14502 T > C mutation should be considered an inherited risk factor that can help diagnose. The data of this investigation help counsel families of individuals with hearing loss.

The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the effect of plasmapheresis treatment concomitant with chemotherapy and the number of sessions on renal improvement and survival in patients with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (MM) presenting with acute kidney injury (AKI). ⋯ It was observed that plasmapheresis is beneficial in the short term for renal recovery in the treatment of MM with AKI and that > 3 plasmapheresis sessions have no superior effectiveness in renal improvement or survival.
