Artificial Intelligence in pathology: current applications, limitations, and future directions.
Given AI's recent success in computer vision applications, majority of pathologists anticipate that it will be able to assist them with a variety of digital pathology activities. Massive improvements in deep learning have enabled a synergy between Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning, enabling image-based diagnosis against the backdrop of digital pathology. AI-based solutions are being developed to eliminate errors and save pathologists time. ⋯ Based on these factors, we elaborate upon the use of AI in medical pathology and provide future recommendations for its successful implementation in this field.

Neoadjuvant therapy is an essential component of multimodality therapy for locally advanced breast adenocarcinoma (BC). Complete pathologic response (pCR) is a useful surrogate for long-term oncologic outcome. ⋯ pCR was more likely in patients with less advanced disease in BC. The presence of HER2 + or TNBC in BC also increases the likelihood of pCR. Neoadjuvant therapy stimulates the systemic inflammatory response; however, a reduced baseline NLR may be associated with increased pCR. Confirmation with larger datasets is required.

Ocular lymphomas are rare, indolent tumours that pose a diagnostic challenge. Patients may be asymptomatic or present with symptoms of increased orbital mass. An index of suspicion is required alongside an understanding of the diagnostics and staging required to facilitate expedited multi-disciplinary work-up and management. ⋯ Although not typically involved in the diagnosis or management, the otolaryngologist may encounter ocular lymphoma masquerading as sinus disease or with disseminated disease at other sites in the head and neck. Endoscopic sinus surgery is considered a safe, effective approach for achieving a histological diagnosis in these cases.

Micro-RNA (miRs) targeting kinases and phosphatases regulate the hyper-phosphorylation of tau protein, which is a characteristic feature of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). ⋯ We observed that among all other dysregulated miRs, miR-181c-5p is significantly overexpressed in Alzhimers disease (AD) and CTE. Further, we found that miR-210-3p is also upregulated notably in all groups. In sum, we conclude that these miRs can be considered as potential target and biomarker in the diagnosis and treatment of various tauopathies.

It was aimed to determine the effect level of nonpharmacological methods applied by nurses to patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit on the duration of delirium. ⋯ Nonpharmacological interventions applied by nurses, who have significant responsibilities in the protection and promotion of health, were found to reduce the duration of delirium in intensive care patients. This study shows that nurses, one of the main components of the multidisciplinary team in intensive care, are successful when they apply nonpharmacological interventions well.
