Randomized Controlled Trial
An online pilates exercise program is effective on proprioception and core muscle endurance in a randomized controlled trial.
Proprioception is important for stability of body segments, postural control, and functionality. However, there are no studies in literature showing effects of online Pilates exercises that create proprioceptive inputs on vertebra on trunk proprioception. ⋯ We revealed that online Pilates exercises performed at mat level for 6 weeks in healthy individuals had positive effects on trunk proprioception and core muscle endurance with this study. Contribution of Pilates exercises to development of both muscular endurance and proprioceptive senses, even if performed at a distance, is important.

Proposing a novel care program: reminiscence therapy involved care for anxiety, depression, and quality of life in postoperative cervical cancer patients.
Reminiscence therapy (RT) relieves mental disorders and improves quality of life (QoL) in some cancer survivors, but in postoperative cervical cancer patients, its effect is unclear. This study aimed to assess the impact of reminiscence therapy involved care (RTIC) and usual care (UC) on anxiety, depression, QoL, and survival in postoperative cervical cancer patients. ⋯ RTIC reduces anxiety (partly) and depression and improves QoL in postoperative cervical cancer patients, especially in old patients.

Gone in 60 days: our first experience with a bioconvertible IVC filter.
The Sentry bioconvertible IVC filter (Boston Scientific, MA, USA) contains a bioabsorbable filament which hydrolyses after 60 days, allowing the arms of the filter to spring open, retract into the vessel wall and endothelialise, leaving an unobstructed IVC lumen. It is a novel treatment option for patients at transient risk of pulmonary emboli with a contraindication to anticoagulation. The device provides similar protection to other currently available devices against pulmonary emboli with minimal complications. ⋯ We review the literature which underpins the development of the bioconvertible filter. We describe our first deployment of the filter in an 85-year-old female with gastric malignancy (who subsequently underwent a subtotal gastrectomy) with a history of anaemia and previous pulmonary emboli. The availability of a bioconvertible filter constitutes a further step forward in the management of patients with potential or active thromboembolic disease.

To establish the demographics, injury patterns, management and outcomes of paediatric major trauma patients at Cork University Hospital (CUH). ⋯ Paediatric trauma is of low volume, creating challenges in terms of preparedness. The annual number of paediatric major trauma presentations to CUH, including road trauma cases, remains roughly constant.
