Phage-antibiotic synergism against Salmonella typhi isolated from stool samples of typhoid patients.
Typhoid fever is a fatal disease in humans that is caused by Salmonella typhi. S. typhi infections need immediate antibiotic therapy, and their extensive use has led to multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens. The use of bacteriophages is becoming a new way to treat these resistant bacteria. This research was directed to bacteriophage isolation against S. typhi and to determine phage-antibiotic synergism. ⋯ The study highlights the synergistic effects of isolated bacteriophages with antibiotics, which are not only effective against S. typhi infection but also decrease antibiotic resistance.

Observational Study
Estimation of z-scores of cardiac structures in healthy children in Southeast Nigeria.
The z-scoring system shows the mean deviation of cardiac dimensions from age-specific population. The use of the European-based z-score studies has resulted in misdiagnosis and late treatment of Nigerian children with heart diseases leading to increased mortality and morbidity. ⋯ Z-scores of cardiac structures and function are derived from children in this locale. These values were similar to that of Detroit values except for the mitral valve and left pulmonary artery.

Effect of Ramadan fasting on thyroid functions in hypothyroid patients taking levothyroxine: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
The major changes in the timing of meals during Ramadan may be challenging for hypothyroid patients on levothyroxine. We aimed to study the effect of Ramadan fasting on thyroid functions in hypothyroid patients taking levothyroxine. ⋯ TSH increases significantly after Ramadan. No timing point has superiority in maintaining thyroid control. However, choosing the timing should be individualized according to the patient's preference to guarantee the most possible compliance.
