Exploration of somatosensory impairments in subjects with mechanical idiopathic neck pain: a preliminary study.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in pressure and thermal pain hypersensitivity between patients with acute and chronic neck pain and healthy subjects. ⋯ We found widespread decreased PPT in patients with chronic, but not acute, mechanical neck pain as compared with controls. Patients with chronic neck pain also showed cold pain hypersensitivity as compared with patients with acute neck pain and controls. These results support the existence of different sensitization mechanisms between patients with acute and chronic mechanical insidious neck pain.

ReviewManagement of chronic spine-related conditions: consensus recommendations of a multidisciplinary panel.
Chronic spine-related conditions are very problematic in terms of treatment and indemnity costs, diagnostic complexity, and appropriate case management. Currently no chiropractic-directed guideline exists related to chiropractic management of the chronic spine pain patient. The purpose of this project was to develop a broad-based multidisciplinary consensus of medical and chiropractic clinical experts representing mainstream medical and chiropractic practice to produce a document designed to provide standardized parameters of care and documentation. ⋯ A multidisciplinary panel of experienced practitioners was able to reach a high level (80%) of consensus regarding specific aspects of the chiropractic approach to care for complex patients with chronic spine-related conditions, based on both the scientific evidence and their clinical experience.

Are Swiss chiropractors different than other chiropractors? Results of the job analysis survey 2009.
With the start of a new chiropractic program in the faculty of medicine, University of Zürich, an in-depth look at chiropractic practice in Switzerland was needed to help direct the undergraduate and postgraduate education. The purposes of this study were (1) to identify specific characteristics of chiropractic practice in Switzerland to ensure that relevant key competencies particular to practice in this country are covered in the undergraduate and postgraduate chiropractic programs and (2) to compare chiropractic practice in Switzerland to other countries who have completed similar surveys. ⋯ Chiropractic practice in Switzerland is a government-recognized medical profession with significant interprofessional referrals resulting in earlier chiropractic treatment for many patients. However, Swiss chiropractic practitioners still retain their professional identity and focus of practice.
