Case ReportsAortic root replacement in a patient with bicuspid pulmonary valve late after arterial switch operation.
Mild to moderate neoaortic root dilatation late after arterial switch operation (ASO) is a well-documented morbidity, but rarely needs surgical replacement. Here, we report on a 22-year-old man, who developed marked dilatation of neoaortic root and needed an aortic root replacement with mechanical conduit. ⋯ Only three cases have been reported for surgical replacement of aortic root after ASO, and two of them had bicuspid neoaortic valves. We suspect that a bicuspid neoaortic valve may be a risk factor for marked dilatation of the aortic root late after ASO.

Comparative StudyClosure of perimembranous ventricular septal defects with intraoperative device technique: another safe alternative to surgical repair.
This study aims at assessing the safety and feasibility of intraoperative device closure of the perimembranous ventricular septal defect (VSD). ⋯ Minimally invasive transthoracic device closure of the perimembranous VSD with an asymmetric or a symmetric domestically made device without cardiopulmonary bypass is safe and feasible. It should be considered an acceptable alternative to surgery in selected subgroups. However, it is necessary to evaluate the long-term results.

Quantification of morbidity associated with congenital heart surgery.
The objective of this study was to estimate the morbidity according to observed complications after congenital heart surgery over 1-year period. ⋯ Quantification of morbidity indicates the length of ICU stay and the duration of mechanical ventilation as the best surrogates for morbidity. Such benchmarking and scoring of observed postoperative complications paves the way for an accurate assessment and improvement of quality care in congenital heart surgery.

Case ReportsContribution of giant aneurysm of a membranous ventricular septal defect to right ventricular outflow tract obstruction.
Perimembranous defects are the most common types of ventricular septal defects (VSDs). In many cases, an aneurysm accompanies this defect. ⋯ However, it also has numerous complications that are frequently encountered in clinical practice. In this case, we describe a patient with a membranous VSD with giant aneurysm formation contributing to subpulmonic severe obstruction.

Case ReportsEndograft failure in an adult patient with coarctation and bicuspid aortic valve.
A 25-year-old man presented with associated bicuspid aortic valve and coarctation of the aorta. Following aortic valve replacement, he underwent endovascular stenting of his native coarctation. We describe early failure of the latter procedure that necessitated definitive surgical correction.
