Nonintubated Uniportal Thoracoscopic Thymectomy with Laryngeal Mask.
To investigate whether laryngeal mask anesthesia had more favorable postoperative outcomes than double-lumen tube intubation anesthesia in uniportal thoracoscopic thymectomy. ⋯ Compared with intubated approach, nonintubated uniportal thoracoscopic thymectomy with laryngeal mask is feasible for anterior mediastinum lesion, and patients recovered faster with less complications.

A Single-Center Experience of Osteosynthesis Material Infection after Rib Fixation for Blunt Trauma.
There is no data regarding the incidence and treatment of deep infection affecting the surgical implants after rib fixation. The aim of this study is to share our experience in the management of infected material after surgical rib fixation. ⋯ The lack of evidence prompts for the design of surgical databases to share experience and enhance available data.

Meta AnalysisTopical Use of Tranexamic Acid in Cardiac Surgery: A Meta-Analysis.
This meta-analysis was conducted to investigate the evidence for the efficacy and safety of intrapericardial tranexamic acid (TXA) in cardiac surgery. ⋯ Findings from this meta-analysis suggest that intrapericardial use of TXA in patients undergoing cardiac surgery can decrease postoperative bleeding without increasing the risk of postoperative seizures. Future large randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trials are needed to confirm these promising findings.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudySutureless versus Stented Bioprostheses for Aortic Valve Replacement: The Randomized PERSIST-AVR Study Design.
Sutureless biological valves for surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), characterized by the absence of anchoring sutures at the aortic annulus, are gaining popularity because of ease and reproducibility of implant, shorter operating times, and enhancement of minimally invasive approaches. The stentless configuration of the sutureless valve was designed to achieve optimal hemodynamic performance. ⋯ PERSIST-AVR is the first prospective, randomized study comparing in-hospital and postdischarge outcomes in a robust population of patients undergoing SAVR with either the Perceval sutureless bioprosthesis or a conventional sutured stented bioprosthesis up to 5 years.

Case ReportsIsolated Tricuspid Valvectomy: A Series of cases with Intravenous Drug Abuse Associated Tricuspid Valve Endocarditis.
Surgical management for tricuspid valve (TV) endocarditis is usually TV repair or replacement. When repair is not feasible, and concerns for patient recidivism preclude TV replacement, tricuspid valvectomy without replacement is an option to alleviate symptoms and allow time for addiction management. ⋯ Cardiac surgeons increasingly encounter patients with active endocarditis who suffer from IVDU addiction. Drug addiction increases the risk for recurrent endocarditis and requires an effective management plan. Multidisciplinary endocarditis care teams may play a pivotal role in improving outcomes by better addressing addiction treatment.
