Vitreous hemorrhage as an early sign of acute bacterial endophthalmitis following intravitreal ranibizumab injection.
To report a case of acute bacterial endophthalmitis after antivascular endothelial growth factor injection with a rare presentation of vitreous hemorrhage. ⋯ Vitreous hemorrhage may be an atypical presentation of acute bacterial endophthalmitis occurring after intravitreal injection.

Choroidal osteoma (CO) frequently leads to progressive visual loss due to complications of secondary choroidal neovascularization (CNV).We report herein the function of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) in observation of CO complicating CNV. ⋯ Optical coherence tomography angiography has the advantage of varying the segmentation and scrolling through the different retinal layers, and layer-specific observation of blood flow in each layer. In addition, OCTA can measure the vessel area change of CNV and provide a better appreciation of CNV, observing the efficacy more elaboratively and quantizedly. OCTA makes promising noninvasive identification of the CO-related CNV.

Purtscher-like retinopathy, a rare manifestation of systemic thrombotic microangiopathy, is a potentially visually debilitating condition with no effective proven treatment. Distinct pathogenic pathways have been proposed as etiological factors. ⋯ We hypothesize that the efficacy of eculizumab in this patient provides evidence for pathogenic events in the retina similar to those encountered in the renal microvasculature of aHUS patients, namely complement-mediated thromboembolization as a result of activation of the complement cascade in endothelial cells with release of tissue factor and development and amplification of a procoagulant state. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in the literature of eculizumab as an effective therapeutic strategy in Purtscher-like retinopathy.

Strabismus surgery aims to improve binocular vision, reduce diplopia, and enhance cosmesis. Adjustable strabismus procedures have been developed as a means of tackling unpredictability in some post-operative results. The purpose of the study was to compare the effectiveness of adjustable and non-adjustable squint procedures in the treatment of strabismus. ⋯ Our study displays a trend that adjustable procedures are more effective in terms of the mean horizontal effect per muscle operated, and is a novel way of reporting effectiveness of strabismus procedures.

The purpose of the study was to calculate serum total oxidant status (TOS), total antioxidant status (TAS), and dynamic thiol-disulphide (T-D) homeostasis in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and compare the results with healthy individuals. ⋯ Serum TOS levels are higher, TAS levels are lower, and the T-D balance is shifted to the DS bond side in AMD patients. These results suggest that increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant levels may play a role in AMD progression. Further studies are needed to confirm the pathophysiologic role of T-D homeostasis in AMD.
