Meta AnalysisAripiprazole in major depression and mania: meta-analyses of randomized placebo-controlled trials.
We performed meta-analyses to obtain pooled estimates from controlled clinical trials on the efficacy of aripiprazole in major depression disorder and manic phase of bipolar disorder. ⋯ We found evidence suggesting that aripiprazole is effective in both depressive and manic patients, but has relevant side effects. Further research is needed to identify its benefits for comorbid patients and its long-term effect.

Predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder and return to usual major activity in traumatically injured intensive care unit survivors.
To assess intensive care unit (ICU)/acute care service-delivery characteristics and pre-ICU factors as predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and return to usual major activity after ICU admission for trauma. ⋯ Easily identifiable risk factors including ICU/acute care service-delivery characteristics and early post-ICU distress were associated with increased risk of PTSD and limitations in return to usual major activity. Future investigations could develop early screening interventions in acute care settings targeting these risk factors, facilitating appropriate treatments.

The accuracy of Patient Health Questionnaire-9 in detecting depression and measuring depression severity in high-risk groups in primary care.
Only half of patients with depressive disorder are diagnosed by their family physicians. Screening in high-risk groups might reduce this hidden morbidity. This study aims to determine the accuracy of the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) in (a) screening for depressive disorder, (b) diagnosing depressive disorder and (c) measuring the severity of depressive disorder in groups that are at high risk for depressive disorder. ⋯ The PHQ-9 performs well as a screening instrument, but in diagnosing depressive disorder, a formal diagnostic process following the PHQ-9 remains imperative. The PHQ-9 does not seem adequate for measuring severity.
