Hyperlipidemia, statin use and the risk of developing depression: a nationwide retrospective cohort study.
Depression is a highly prevalent disorder that is associated with disability. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between depression and hyperlipidemia and whether the onset of depression is associated with administering statins to patients with hyperlipidemia. ⋯ Our results suggested that hyperlipidemia increases the risk of depression and that using statins is associated with a decreased risk of depression in patients with hyperlipidemia.

To investigate potential risk factors for delirium in critically ill patients through a meta-analysis of clinical observational studies. ⋯ Age, history of hypertension, clinical use of mechanical ventilation and higher APACHE II score are associated with increased risk of delirium in critically ill patients.

The relationship between psychological symptoms, lung function and quality of life in children and adolescents with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between psychological symptoms and quality of life (QOL) and clinical variables in a cohort of children and adolescents with non-cystic fibrosis (non-CF) bronchiectasis. ⋯ Non-CF bronchiectasis is associated with poorer QOL in childhood. The impact of the disease on QOL occurs through both clinical and psychological variables.

To investigate whether suicide risk in Tyrol/Austria was increased for cancer patients as compared to the general population and whether subgroups at excess risk could be defined. ⋯ In our study population in Tyrol/Austria, we observed a twofold suicide risk in cancer patients as compared with the general population, with the excess risk concentrated in the period shortly after diagnosis and in patients with poor prognosis. Therefore, psychooncological care should be intensified in this group of patients.
