Cross-cultural Adaptation and Measurement Properties of the Brazilian Portuguese Version of the Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A) Questionnaire.
Background Achilles tendon disorders are very common among athletes. It is important to measure symptoms and functional limitations objectively related to Achilles tendinopathy using outcome measures that have been validated in the language of the target population. Objectives To perform a cross-cultural adaptation and to evaluate the measurement properties of the Brazilian version of the Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A) questionnaire. ⋯ This adaptation of the questionnaire may be used in clinical and scientific settings. Case ReportsDifferential Diagnosis of a Pathological Spine Fracture.
A 71-year-old woman with a 10-month history of atraumatic low back pain was referred to physical therapy after an insidious exacerbation of symptoms. Red flags raised suspicions for spinal compression fracture, necessitating the physical therapist to contact her physician and recommend imaging. ⋯ Following bone scintigraphy and an ultrasound-guided biopsy of a liver lesion, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2018;48(7):595. doi:10.2519/jospt.2018.7768.

A 26-year-old active woman with knee pain was seen by her primary care physician and diagnosed with patellofemoral pain (PFP). Radiographs of the knee were interpreted as noncontributory. ⋯ Subsequent magnetic resonance imaging further characterized the mass as an aggressive bone lesion, and biopsy confirmed that it was Ewing sarcoma. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2018;48(7):594. doi:10.2519/jospt.2018.7835.

Meta AnalysisEffectiveness of the McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy for Treating Low Back Pain: Literature Review With Meta-analysis.
Study Design Literature review with meta-analysis. Background The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT), a classification-based system, was designed to classify patients into homogeneous subgroups to direct treatment. Objectives To examine the effectiveness of MDT for improving pain and disability in patients with either acute (less than 12 weeks in duration) or chronic (greater than 12 weeks in duration) low back pain (LBP). ⋯ Level of Evidence Therapy, level 1a. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2018;48(6):476-490. Epub 30 Mar 2018. doi:10.2519/jospt.2018.7562.

Observational StudyOptimal Screening for Prediction of Referral and Outcome (OSPRO) for Musculoskeletal Pain Conditions: Results From the Validation Cohort.
Study Design Observational, prospective cohort. Background Musculoskeletal pain is a common reason to seek health care, and earlier nonpharmacological treatment and enhancement of personalized care options are 2 high-priority areas. Validating concise assessment tools is an important step toward establishing better care pathways. ⋯ The additional variance explained was small, and future research is necessary to determine whether these tools can be used as measurement adjuncts to improve management of musculoskeletal pain. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2018;48(6):460-475. Epub 7 Apr 2018. doi:10.2519/jospt.2018.7811.
