Controlled Clinical TrialSound-Intensity Feedback During Running Reduces Loading Rates and Impact Peak.
Study Design Controlled laboratory study, within-session design. Background Gait retraining has been proposed as an effective intervention to reduce impact loading in runners at risk of stress fractures. Interventions that can be easily implemented in the clinic are needed. ⋯ Decreases in loading were of comparable magnitude to those observed in other gait retraining methods. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2017;47(8):565-569. Epub 6 Jul 2017. doi:10.2519/jospt.2017.7275.

Case ReportsNeck Pain Associated With a Bony Metastatic Tumor.
A 78-year-old man was referred to physical therapy with a 5-month history of nontraumatic neck pain and reductions in active bilateral rotation without radiculopathy. Radiography and computed tomography taken 2 months prior demonstrated age-related multilevel degenerative disc disease. ⋯ An expansile lesion in the right lateral mass of the atlas on magnetic resonance imaging was consistent with a metastatic activity. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2017;47(7):509. doi:10.2519/jospt.2017.6135.

Case ReportsCervical Myelopathy in a Patient Referred for Lower Extremity Symptoms.
The patient was a 38-year-old male referred to physical therapy with complaints of right lower extremity radicular pain and left lower extremity weakness. Following physical therapy examination, the primary care physician referred the patient to a neurologist, who performed electromyography and nerve conduction studies and ordered a magnetic resonance image. Cervical spine imaging revealed a C5-6 disc extrusion with myelopathy. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2017;47(7):510. doi:10.2519/jospt.2017.5071.

Review Meta AnalysisThe Association of Recreational and Competitive Running With Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Study Design Systematic review and meta-analysis. Background Running is a healthy and popular activity worldwide, but data regarding its association with osteoarthritis (OA) are conflicting. Objectives To evaluate the association of hip and knee OA with running and to explore the influence of running intensity on this association. ⋯ However, it was not possible to determine whether these associations were causative or confounded by other risk factors, such as previous injury. Level of Evidence Etiology/harm, level 2a. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2017;47(6):373-390. doi:10.2519/jospt.2017.7137.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffectiveness of Inclusion of Dry Needling in a Multimodal Therapy Program for Patellofemoral Pain: A Randomized Parallel-Group Trial.
Study Design Randomized controlled trial. Background Evidence suggests that multimodal interventions that include exercise therapy may be effective for patellofemoral pain (PFP); however, no study has investigated the effects of trigger point (TrP) dry needling (DN) in people with PFP. Objectives To compare the effects of adding TrP DN to a manual therapy and exercise program on pain, function, and disability in individuals with PFP. ⋯ Level of Evidence Therapy, level 1b. Prospectively registered July 27, 2015 at www.clinicaltrials.gov (NCT02514005). J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2017;47(6):392-401. doi:10.2519/jospt.2017.7389.
