Inhibition of the pendular movements of the intestine by aminoglycoside antibiotics.
In the present study the inhibitory effect of eight aminoglycoside antibiotics on the motility of the rabbit's intestine was investigated. We found that all the antibiotics tested exert inhibitory effect on the motility of the intestine and only quantitative differences exist between them. ⋯ Neostigmine is not able to restore the normal motility of the relaxed intestine. The normal pendular movements of the intestine are restored by calcium.
