Frequency and risk factors of various complications after computed tomography-guided radiofrequency ablation of lung tumors.
To retrospectively determine the frequency and risk factors of various side effects and complications after percutaneous computed tomography-guided radiofrequency (RF) ablation of lung tumors. ⋯ The total complication rate for all treatment sessions was 58%, and 25% of patients did not have any complications after RF ablation. Although major complications can occur, RF ablation of lung tumors can be considered a safe and minimally invasive procedure.

Case ReportsAir embolism detected during computed tomography fluoroscopically guided transthoracic needle biopsy.
Air embolism is a rare but potentially fatal complication of percutaneous needle biopsy of the lung. We report a case of cerebral air embolism which occurred during computed tomography (CT)-guided needle biopsy. Air entering the aorta is depicted on CT-fluoroscopy images of the procedure.

Long-term follow-up after endovascular treatment of acute aortic emergencies.
To investigate the long-term outcome and efficacy of emergency treatment of acute aortic diseases with endovascular stent-grafts. ⋯ Endovascular treatment is safe and effective for emergency treatment of life-threatening acute thoracic aortic syndromes. Results are encouraging, particularly for traumatic aortic ruptures. However, regular follow-up is mandatory, particularly in the other pathologies, to identify late complications of the stent-graft and to perform appropriate additional corrections as required.

Randomized Controlled TrialDoes prebiopsy, nonsterile ultrasonography gel affect biopsy-site asepsis?
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which the use of nonsterile gel, prior to antiseptic procedures in ultrasonography (US)-guided percutaneous biopsies, results in contamination of the biopsy site. ⋯ We conclude that nonsterile gel used prior to percutaneous biopsy does not affect biopsy-site asepsis.

Empyema and effusion: outcome of image-guided small-bore catheter drainage.
Empyema and complicated pleural effusion represent common medical problems. Current treatment options are multiple. The purpose of this study was to access the outcome of image-guided, small-bore catheter drainage of empyema and effusion. ⋯ All treatment failures, requiring surgery, occurred in the empyema group (19%; n = 12; p < 0.05). In conclusion, noninfected pleural collections are adequately treated with small-bore catheters, however, empyemas have a failure rate of 19%. The threshold for using urokinase and larger-bore catheters should be low in empyema.
