Review Case ReportsLaryngeal inflammatory pseudotumour: an unusual cause of airway obstruction.
We report a rare case of a laryngeal pseudotumour in a child presenting with stridor, which was treated by endoscopic laryngeal resection, without the need for a tracheostomy. A short review of the literature is also presented. Although rare, laryngeal pseudotumour should be considered as part of the differential diagnosis of stridor and upper airway obstruction in children.

Tonsillectomy using the Ligasure vessel sealing system. A preliminary report.
To evaluate and introduce a new method of tonsillectomy with the use of Ligasure vessel sealing system (LVSS) in pediatric population. ⋯ LVSS was found quite effective and safe, providing sufficient haemostasis, minimal intraoperative blood loss, and safety against the variant Creutzfeld-Jakob disease transmission.

Case ReportsPulmonary hypertension due to recurrent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis.
Although pulmonary hypertension secondary to upper airway obstruction caused by adenotonsillar hyperplasia has been well described, the association between laryngeal papillomatosis and pulmonary hypertension has not previously been documented. We report three patients with pulmonary hypertension due to upper airway obstruction caused by laryngeal papillomatosis. Pulmonary hypertension can contribute to significant preoperative and postoperative morbidity and cause intraoperative complications. Preoperative diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension is therefore essential in these patients.

Audiometric, clinical and educational outcomes in a pediatric symptomatic congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) population with sensorineural hearing loss.
To correlate audiometric findings and outcomes with the clinical, radiological and educational findings in a symptomatic congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) population with sensorineural hearing loss. ⋯ The severity of neurological manifestations in congenital symptomatic CMV infection was positively correlated with the need for total and manual communication and the reliance on special education. Statistical associations between clinical findings such as hepatic dysfunction, CP and hearing level were identified however plausible mechanisms explaining these associations remain ambiguous and are discussed in the context of this complex population of children with congenital symptomatic CMV.

Case ReportsSuccinylcholine-induced masseter muscle rigidity during bronchoscopic removal of a tracheal foreign body.
Masseter muscle rigidity during general anesthesia is considered an early warning sign of a possible episode of malignant hyperthermia. The decision whether to continue or discontinue the procedure depends on the urgency of the surgery and severity of masseter muscle rigidity. Here, we describe a case of severe masseter muscle rigidity (jaw of steel) after succinylcholine (Sch) administration during general anesthetic management for rigid bronchoscopic removal of a tracheal foreign body. Anesthesia was continued uneventfully with propofol infusion while all facilities were available to detect and treat malignant hyperthermia.
