ReviewParents' experiences and views of caring for a child with a tracheostomy: a literature review.
To review the published/reported experiences and views of parents' whose child has had a tracheostomy. To date, no review has focused specifically on parents' experiences and views of having a child with a tracheostomy. ⋯ This review identifies a lack of qualitative research on parents' views of having a child with a tracheostomy. Issues surrounding parental management of tracheostomy require further investigation. This review has identified the need to elicit parents' longitudinal experiences of having a child with a tracheostomy.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyThe effect of montelukast on wheal reactions in skin prick tests: a double-blind-placebo-controlled randomized trial.
It is well-known that number of drugs may interfere with wheal reactions in skin prick test. However, the effect of long-term use of montelukast, a cystenil leukotriene receptor antagonist, on skin prick test hasn't been full elucidated. The aim of present study was to demonstrate the effect of montelukast on skin prick tests (SPT). ⋯ Our results showed that montelukast had no effect on measurements of SPT. Thus, we concluded that there is no need to discontinue the treatment in order to perform SPT in patients receiving montelukast, even in those on montelukast treatment for at least 21 days.

Foreign body aspiration in children: experience from 2624 patients.
The objective of this study is to analyze the epidemiological, clinical, radiological and endoscopic characteristics of pediatric foreign body aspiration in Algeria. ⋯ Foreign body aspiration is a real public health problem in Algeria. The best way to manage it is an early diagnosis and a rigid bronchoscopy removal under general anesthesia used by fully trained staff. The prevention of this domestic accident should consider the population lifestyle and cultural habits to be more effective.

Preoperative cytology with molecular analysis to help guide surgery for pediatric thyroid nodules.
To discuss the use of molecular mutation analysis in the surgical management of pediatric thyroid nodules. ⋯ This series provides evidence that preoperative FNA with reflex molecular testing in pediatric thyroid nodules can help guide surgical decision making, reduce the need for repeat surgeries, and diminish the risk of complications from a staged procedure.

Comparative StudyNational UK survey on the assessment and surgical management of suspected paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome.
Controversy exists amongst ENT surgeons as to the best way to manage a non-syndromal and otherwise healthy child with suspected OSAS. In 2002, The American Association of Paediatricians stated that the gold standard is a full polysomnography (PSG) for all children with suspected OSA and the revised version in 2012 repeated that requirement but recognized that facilities are not always available. In 2009 a UK Multidisciplinary Consensus Statement disagreed and reserved a full PSG for younger and syndromal or complicated children. We undertook a survey of UK ENT surgeons before and after the UK Consensus Statement to identify common practice with regards to diagnosis and management of suspected paediatric obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome in the UK. ⋯ The availability of paediatric PSG is very limited and because of a lack of normative data, uncertainty about interpretation of abnormal results, the recognition that even moderate snoring without sleep apnoea has detrimental neuro-cognitive effects and the fact that adenotonsillectomy is a very effective treatment for paediatric OSA we felt that a pragmatic and safe approach was to treat selected patients as if they had a positive PSG with appropriate anaesthetic technique and post operative care and monitoring.
