Case ReportsFractured tracheostomy tube as foreign body bronchus: our experience with three cases.
Tracheostomy tubes are extensively used in paediatric age group for airway issues. Their fracture and lodgement into trachea is an acute emergency requiring urgent intervention. ⋯ Immediate identification is the key to successful management of this rare but life threatening situation. In the presence of tracheal stenosis above the tracheostomy opening, situation becomes more dangerous with very limited options for management.

Difficult pediatric airway management using the intubating laryngeal airway.
To evaluate the intubating laryngeal airway (ILA) in providing safe endotracheal intubation in pediatric patients with difficult airway; to describe a method for using flexible fiberoptic bronchoscopy with the ILA for evaluating the pediatric airway. ⋯ ILA and fiberoptic-guided tracheal intubation is a safe and effective method for securing the airway in pediatric patients with difficult airway and can be a useful alternative to direct laryngoscopy when laryngeal exposure is suboptimal.

Randomized Controlled TrialTranexamic acid in adenotonsillectomy in children: a double-blind randomized clinical trial.
Adenotonsillectomy is one of the most common surgical procedures in pediatric otolaryngology, in which bleeding is a potential complication. We evaluated the efficacy of intravenous tranexamic acid in reducing intraoperative bleeding volume, and bleeding in the following 10 postoperative days in children who underwent adenotonsillectomy. ⋯ There is no benefit in the use of tranexamic acid for reducing bleeding during the transoperative period of adenotonsillectomy in children. More studies with a greater sample are required to evaluate the benefit of tranexamic acid in postoperative bleeding.

Randomized Controlled TrialVasoconstrictive and analgesic efficacy of locally infiltrated levobupivacaine in tonsillectomy patients.
The use of preincisional plain levobupivacaine, lidocaine adrenaline and saline for perioperative blood loss and postoperative analgesia in pediatric tonsillectomy patients are compared. ⋯ Levobupivacaine has a vasoconstrictive effect in 0.25% concentrations that may be beneficial in tonsillectomy patients and has a consistent analgesic effect.

Prevalence of habitual snoring and associated neurocognitive consequences among Chilean school aged children.
To assess the prevalence of habitual snoring and symptoms of sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and their association with neurocognitive consequences in school-aged children. ⋯ There was a high prevalence of habitual snoring and symptoms of SDB in this survey of Chilean children, being among the highest reported. The presence of habitual snoring and an abnormal SDB questionnaire were associated with poor academic performance and hyperactive behavior.
