Preliminary experience with MR-guided thermal ablation of brain tumors.
To evaluate the feasibility of a technique of MR-guided stereotactic radio frequency ablation, which was developed as a minimally invasive treatment for brain tumors, and to determine MR characteristics and sequential evolution of radio frequency lesions created to ablate brain tumors. ⋯ Stereotactic MR-guided radio frequency brain tumor ablation is a feasible and promising technique that can be an attractive brain tumor treatment alternative. MR provided not only accurate tumor location but also visualization of feedback of thermal tissue changes that reflected therapeutic effect.

Comparative StudyMagnetization transfer effects in MR-detected multiple sclerosis lesions: comparison with gadolinium-enhanced spin-echo images and nonenhanced T1-weighted images.
To define the relationship between magnetization transfer and blood-brain-barrier breakdown in multiple sclerosis lesions using gadolinium enhancement as an index of the latter. ⋯ We speculate that diminished MTR may reflect diminished myelin content and that hypointensity on T1-weighted images corresponds to demyelination. Central regions of ring-enhancing lesions had a lower MTR than the periphery, suggesting that demyelination in multiple sclerosis lesions occurs centrifugally. In addition, the short-repetition-time pulse sequence seems useful in the evaluation of myelin loss in patients with multiple sclerosis.

Clinical, neurodiagnostic, and MR findings in children with spinal and brain stem multiple sclerosis.
To describe the clinical, neurodiagnostic, and MR findings in seven children with brain stem and spinal multiple sclerosis. ⋯ Multiple sclerosis involvement of the brain stem and spinal cord may be associated with extensive swelling and MR signal changes suggestive of neoplasm without typical cerebral white matter abnormalities. Serial clinical and neuroimaging examinations may be necessary to make a definitive diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in children.

Development of posterior fossa dural sinuses, emissary veins, and jugular bulb: morphological and radiologic study.
To report the anatomic and radiologic development of the transverse, sigmoid, and occipital sinuses, the emissary veins, and the jugular bulb formation from the jugular sinus in humans before and after birth. ⋯ The morphological changes of the posterior fossa dural sinuses, emissary veins, and jugular bulb are closely related to the development of the brain, shift to postnatal type of circulation, and postural hemodynamic changes.
