Association of weather factors with the risk of pain exacerbations in people with hip osteoarthritis.
Objectives: Our objective was to evaluate the association of weather factors with the risk of pain exacerbations in people with symptomatic hip osteoarthritis (OA). Method: Eligible participants with symptomatic hip OA were instructed to log on to the study website and complete questionnaires every 10 days and additionally whenever they considered they were experiencing a pain exacerbation (case period) during the 90 day follow-up. Pain exacerbation was defined as an increase of two points in pain intensity on an 11-point numeric rating scale (0-10) during the follow-up compared with baseline. ⋯ A significant dose-response relationship was found between average daily temperature variation in the prior 72 h and risk of pain exacerbations (p = 0.04 for linear trend). There was no significant association between maximum daily temperature, minimum daily temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, or barometric pressure and hip pain exacerbations. Conclusion: The overall results suggest that only daily temperature variation among different weather factors was associated with hip pain exacerbations in people with symptomatic hip OA.

Do magnetic resonance imaging-detected erosions predict progression to rheumatoid arthritis in patients presenting with clinically suspect arthralgia? A longitudinal study.
Objective: Radiographic joint erosions are a hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is more sensitive than radiographs in detecting erosions. It is unknown whether MRI-detected erosions are predictive for RA development in patients with clinically suspect arthralgia (CSA). ⋯ Within both subgroups, MRI erosions were not predictive. Conclusions: MRI-detected erosions in hands and feet were not predictive for inflammatory arthritis development. Therefore, evaluating MRI for erosions in addition to subclinical inflammation does not provide added clinical value in CSA.

Temporomandibular joint involvement in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a retrospective chart review.
To study the proportion of patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) involvement among patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), as well as associated clinical characteristics and signs/symptoms. ⋯ Based on our findings, to identify TMJ involvement special attention should be paid to JIA patients with female gender, ANA positivity, and oligoarthritis, as well as those with a higher number of additional joints with active arthritis; and regular examinations of the TMJ should be performed.

Pulmonary involvement in primary Sjögren's syndrome, as measured by the ESSDAI.
Objective: Systemic features influence disease prognosis and choice of treatment in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS). Our aim was to investigate the prevalence of pulmonary involvement in pSS patients and to classify patients according to the pulmonary domain of the EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (ESSDAI). Methods: This retrospective cohort study included consecutive pSS patients, fulfilling American-European Consensus Group/American College of Rheumatology classification criteria, who visited the Department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology, University Medical Center Groningen, in 2015. ⋯ In total, 16 patients (6%) were scored as low (n = 4), moderate (n = 11), or high activity (n = 1) on the ESSDAI pulmonary domain. Conclusion: In this cross-sectional study in daily clinical practice, pulmonary involvement was present in 10-15% of pSS patients, of which ILD was most common. Of all pSS patients, 6% were scored as active on the pulmonary domain of the ESSDAI.
