[Chronic disease, mortality and disability in an elderly Spanish population: the FRADEA study].
The objective of this study was to analyse the relationships between the major chronic diseases and multiple morbidity, with mortality, incident disability in basic activities of daily living, and loss of mobility in the elderly. ⋯ Multiple morbidity was not associated with mortality, incident disability in ADL, or mobility loss in adults older than 70 years, although if mortality is taken into account, the number of chronic diseases is linear.

[Adaptation and validation of the Spanish version of the Pain Evaluation Scale in patients with advanced dementia: PAINAD-Sp].
Pain in elderly people is considered a major concern in nursing home facilities affecting between 49% and 83% of the residents. Progression of Alzheimer's Disease causes more communication difficulties in patients with advanced dementia and therefore more problems to understand even the most simple pain evaluation scales. Identification and implementation of appropriate pain management strategies depends on an adequate pain assessment. ⋯ Findings in the study showed that the scale is useful to measure pain in non communicative patients suffering from dementia. The scale maintains good levels of reliability for different healthcare professionals even when they have little training.

Review[Scales to evaluate pain in elderly patients suffering from dementia. Help-tools for the physiotherapist, doctor, nurse and occupational therapist].
The purpose of this study was to determine which scales are being used to evaluate pain in old people suffering from dementia. A search strategy was developed to retrieve all articles (randomized controlled trials and clinical trials without randomization) published in MEDLINE, Cochrane Library Plus, PEDro and Dialnet and BMC Geriatrics from January 2000 to January 2012. ⋯ From the results obtained it appears that more studies are needed to confirm the pain scales used for the elderly suffering from dementia. Observational scales may be useful to evaluate pain in these patients.

Multicenter Study[Prognostic role of NT-proBNP in emergency department in the elderly with acute heart failure].
To determine prognostic role of NT-proBNP as predictor of 30 day-mortality and readmission in the elderly with acute heart failure (AHF) treated in Spanish Emergency Departments (EDs), and to analyse the confounding factors when the NT-proBNP value is interpreted. ⋯ The NT-proBNP value is associated with short-term mortality in the elderly with AHF attended in the EDs independently of the presence of confounding factors, such as the severity of the episode and glomerular filtration reduction, but not with 30 day-readmission.
