[Liaison geriatrics with nursing homes in COVID time. A new coordination model arrived to stay].
Older people living in nursing homes fulfil the criteria to be considered as geriatric patients, but they often do not have met their health care needs. Current deficits appeared as a result of COVID-19 pandemic. [Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and ageism: a narrative review of the literature].
Ageism is defined as stereotypes, prejudices and discrimination towards people due to their age. The present review analyzed the age-related attitudes, and the responses to them, produced during the COVID-19 pandemic. We searched for publications related to ageism during the COVID-19 pandemic in Pubmed, Medline, and Embase. ⋯ This attitude contrasted with her vulnerability to illness and ageism. Specific interventions are necessary to support older adults during the pandemic, guaranteeing financial support, protection in the residential environment, access to information, and solving barriers to accessing health services. Likewise, chronological age should not be an independent criterion for clinical decision making.

[Older people representation on the media during COVID-19 pandemic: A reinforcement of ageism?]
The COVID-19 pandemic affects various age groups differently, with most deaths concentrated among the older population and those with previous health conditions. This has led to a greater presence of older people in the agenda setting of all the media. This article aims to analyse these discourses and representations related to older people as presented in the headlines of publications disseminated in 2national newspapers (ABC and El País) during the most critical phase of the pandemic in Spain. ⋯ In light of these results, it is discussed to what extent the COVID-19 pandemic may reinforce an ageist narrative of the older people, based on frailty, decline, and dependency, which may justify discriminatory practices directed at this sector of the population.

Results of an anaemia treatment protocol complementary to blood transfusion in elderly patients with hip fracture.
Anaemia is a very common condition in elderly patients with hip fracture. The side effects of blood transfusions are well known, and further research on potential alternative therapies is needed. ⋯ The use of intravenous iron in elderly patients with hip fracture may help to reduce the number of blood units needed for the treatment of anaemia, although a causal relationship cannot be established due to not having a control group. Transfusions were associated with longer hospital stay in elderly patients with hip fracture.
