Evaluation of polyvinyl caprolactam-polyvinyl acetate-polyethylene glycol graft copolymer nanomicelle for trigeminal ganglion neurons delivering with intranasal administration.
Purpose How to deliver enough medical agents to the trigeminal ganglion (TG) neurons conveniently still remains a challenge in pharmaceutics and clinics. The purpose of this study was to reveal that intranasal administration of polyvinyl caprolactam-polyvinyl acetate-polyethylene glycol graft copolymer (PVCL-PVA-PEG) nanomicelle formulation could efficiently deliver agent to TG neurons in mice. Methods Ocular topical or intranasal administration of nanomicelle coumarin-6 was performed in mice, and tissue distribution after administration (0.25, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 h) was analyzed. ⋯ These levels also indicated the safety of brain tissue after intranasal administration. Using Fluoro-Gold tract tracing techniques, coumarin-6 was detected in TG neurons after either ocular topical or intranasal administration of nanomicelle coumarin-6, indicating the high colocalization of corneal and nasal neurons in the TG. Conclusions Intranasal administration of PVCL-PVA-PEG nanomicelle formulation could efficiently deliver to TG neurons, and it might be a promising therapy for pathological TG neurons.

Protective Effect of Combined Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester and Bevacizumab Against Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Oxidative Stress in Human RPE Cells.
This study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) and combined CAPE-bevacizumab against oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in human retinal pigment epithelium. ⋯ CAPE has a protective effect on ARPE-19 cells against oxidative stress, and VEGF protein level and expression can be decreased by incubation with different concentrations of CAPE. These results demonstrate that CAPE suppresses the mitochondria-mediated apoptosis in ARPE-19 cells under oxidative stress. In addition, the use of CAPE in combination with bevacizumab has an additive effect.

Comparative StudyMultiplex Cytokine Analysis of Aqueous Humor from the Patients with Chronic Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma.
To compare the levels of cytokines and growth factor in aqueous humor of the patients with chronic primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) and cataract. ⋯ These results suggest that the aqueous cytokine levels of chronic PACG eyes differ significantly from nonglaucomatous eyes. This is the first study reporting significantly increased levels of eotaxin, MIP-1β, and IP-10 and lower levels of TNF-α, IL-5, IL-9, IL-17, and GM-CSF in chronic PACG patients, suggesting a plausible role of these inflammatory cytokines in its pathogenesis.

Novel Assay Assessment of Oxidative Stress Biomarkers in Patients with Keratoconus: Thiol-Disulfide Homeostasis.
To investigate systemic oxidative stress by evaluating thiol-disulfide homeostasis using a novel automated homeostasis assay in keratoconus patients. ⋯ There is an imbalance in the systemic thiol-disulfide homeostasis in KC patients. This metabolic imbalance may play an important role in the pathogenesis of keratoconus; thus, it can be discussed in terms of the prevention, diagnosis, and the possible treatment for keratoconus.

Observational StudyThiol Disulfide Homeostasis in Pseudoexfoliation Syndrome.
To determine the serum thiol disulfide homeostasis in patients with pseudoexfoliation (PEX) syndrome. ⋯ Our findings provide evidence that the dynamic native thiol/disulfide ratio is lower in PEX syndrome, which shows a reduction in the natural cell reductive capacity reservoir.
