This study was conducted to investigate the asthenopic symptoms in patients with exotropia and esotropia while watching stereoscopic 3D (S3D) television (TV). ⋯ Symptoms of 3D asthenopia were related to the presence of exodeviation but not to esodeviation. This may indicate that S3D symptoms are closely related to the convergence demand.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyOcular pain after intravitreal injection.
To evaluate the efficacy of different anesthetics and topical anti-inflammatory treatment in patients undergoing intravitreal injections (IVI). ⋯ Topical tetracaine and lidocaine provide similar anesthesia before IVI. Topical diclofenac does not seem to reduce pain scores after IVI.

Comparative StudyIncidence of Terson's syndrome in patients with SAH in a Chinese hospital.
To investigate the incidence and relative factors of Terson's syndrome (TS) in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in China. ⋯ Compared with traumatic SAH, a higher incidence of TS was observed in patients with aneurysmal SAH, a condition significantly associated with a person's overall condition. Therefore, aneurysmal SAH patients with consciousness-disturbance, lower GCS scores, and higher Hunt-Hess grades should be paid particular attention by ophthalmologists when performing fundus examinations. The question of whether SAH with TS is prognostic of spontaneous SAH is an area in need of further study.

Comparative StudyComparison of point estimates and average thicknesses of retinal layers measured using manual optical coherence tomography segmentation for quantification of retinal neurodegeneration in multiple sclerosis.
The advent of macular optical coherence tomography (OCT) segmentation has enabled the in vivo quantitative assessment of retinal axonal and neuronal subpopulations. Recent studies employing OCT in multiple sclerosis (MS) have utilized various manual macular segmentation approaches to quantify retinal layer thicknesses. We investigated whether measurements of retinal layers solely at the points of maximal macular thickness (point estimates) within the central macular B-scan are representative of the corresponding average layer thicknesses for the ganglion cell + inner plexiform (GCIP) layers, inner nuclear layer (INL), outer plexiform layer (OPL) and outer nuclear layer (ONL) in MS and healthy controls. Additionally, we examined the correlation of manual segmentation-derived measures of composite layers with average thickness measures derived from automated 3-D segmentation of the macular cube. ⋯ GCIP, INL and OPL maximal layer thicknesses may be used as surrogates to assess the gross structural integrity of these layers in MS, in a time-conservative fashion.

Effects of supplemental erythropoietin on its receptor expression and signal transduction pathways in rat model of retinal detachment.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of supplemental erythropoietin (EPO) on its receptor (EPOR) and signal transduction pathways in rat model of retinal detachment (RD). ⋯ Supplementary EPO cannot affect EPOR expression in detached retina, but EPO may activate both PI-3K/Akt and MAPK/ERK-1/2 signal transduction pathways in RD model.
