The aim of this review is to discuss the indications and use of MR imaging (MRI) in the paediatric musculoskeletal system. After briefly reviewing basic technical considerations the MRI appearance of the most relevant congenital, inflammatory, infectious, ischemic, and posttraumatic skeletal conditions, as well as benign and malignant bone and soft tissue tumours that are typical for the paediatric age group will be presented.

The purposes of our study were to employ diffusion tensor imaging (DTI)-based histogram analysis to determine the presence of occult damage in clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), to compare its severity with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), and to determine correlations between DTI histogram measures and clinical and MRI indices in these two diseases. ⋯ Occult damage occurs in both NAGM and NAWM in CIS, but the severity is milder than that in RRMS. In CIS and RRMS, the occult damage might be related to both T2 lesion load and brain tissue atrophy. Some DTI histogram measures might be useful for assessing the disease progression in RRMS patients.

Sixty three healthy subjects were measured to assess dependence of brain metabolites on age using short- and long echo time spectroscopy in different brain regions. ⋯ Age-related changes measured with long echo time and short echo time 1H-MRS were comparable and cannot, therefore, be caused by different T2 relaxation times in young and old subjects, as suggested previously.
