Hyperacute stroke imaging is playing an increasingly important role in determining management decisions in acute stroke patients, particularly patients with large vessel occlusive stroke who may benefit from endovascular intervention. CT angiography (CTA) is an important tool in the work-up of the acute stroke patient. It reliably detects large occlusive thrombi in proximal cerebral arteries and is a quick and highly accurate method in identifying candidates for endovascular stroke treatment. ⋯ We retrospectively reviewed CTA studies in 48 patients presenting with acute anterior circulation large vessel occlusive stroke who were brought for intra-arterial acute stroke intervention. We discuss and illustrate patterns of proximal intracranial arterial occlusion, collateralization to the occluded territory, as well as reviewing some important pearls, pitfalls and teaching points in CTA assessment of the acute stroke patient. Performed from the level of the aortic arch CTA also gives valuable information regarding the state of other vessels in the acute stroke patient, identifying additional significant vascular stenoses or occlusions, and as we illustrate, can demonstrate other clinically significant findings which may impact on patient management and outcome.

Oncological whole-body staging in integrated (18)F-FDG PET/MR: Value of different MR sequences for simultaneous PET and MR reading.
To evaluate different magnetic resonance (MR) imaging sequences in integrated positron emission tomography (PET)/MR concerning their ability to detect tumors and allocate increased radionuclide uptake on (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose ((18)F-FDG) PET in intraindividual comparison with computed tomography (CT) from PET/CT. ⋯ In conclusion, T2, TIRM, and contrast-enhanced T1 provide a high quality of lesion detectability and anatomical allocation of FDG-avid foci. Their performance is at least comparable to contrast-enhanced PET/CT. Non-enhanced T1 may be omitted and the necessity of DWI should be further investigated for specific questions, such as assessment of the liver.

To investigate the prevalence and distribution of paraseptal emphysema on chest CT images in the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) population, and assess its impact on pulmonary function. Also pursued was the association with interstitial lung abnormalities. ⋯ The prevalence of pure paraseptal emphysema was 3% in the FHS population, predominantly affects the upper lung zone, and contributes to decreased pulmonary function. Cigarette smoking, aging, and male gender were the factors associated with the presence of paraseptal emphysema. Significant association between paraseptal emphysema and interstitial lung abnormalities was observed.

To define imaging manifestations and clinical prognosis of cervical lymph node hyperplasia using [(18)F]-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) scanning after treatment of children and adolescents with malignant lymphoma. ⋯ Cervical lymph node hyperplasia with high FDG uptake on PET/CT scans found after treating children and adolescents with malignant lymphoma can be benign processes. Awareness of this possibility may help avoid invasive procedures and over-treatment.

To investigate the relationship between the iron content by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and clinic correlation in patients with relapse-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) over a two-year period. ⋯ Iron content in the GM can be measurable using MRI and our results confirmed that iron concentration was increasing in the GM of MS patients during two-year period compared to healthy controls. Furthermore, this study had also shown significant and substantial correlation of iron concentration with disease severity.
