Discharge BNP is a stronger predictor of 6-month mortality in acute heart failure compared with baseline BNP and admission-to-discharge percentage BNP reduction.
Prior studies found a significant relationship between admission B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP), discharge BNP and admission-to-discharge percentage BNP reduction and post-discharge mortality in acute heart failure (HF). ⋯ The absolute BNP value at discharge is a more accurate predictor of 6-month mortality than the magnitude of percentage in-hospital BNP reduction and baseline BNP.

Amiodarone and cardiac arrest: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
The 2015 Guidelines for Resuscitation recommend amiodarone as the antiarrhythmic drug of choice in the treatment of resistant ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia. We reviewed the effects of amiodarone on survival and neurological outcome after cardiac arrest. ⋯ Amiodarone significantly improves survival to hospital admission. However there is no benefit of amiodarone in survival to discharge or neurological outcomes compared to placebo or other antiarrhythmics.

Parameters allowing for outcome discrimination of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy in acute coronary syndromes (ACS) complicated by refractory cardiogenic shock (CS) and/or cardio-respiratory arrest (CA) remain elusive. We aimed at evaluating the potential prognostic roles of blood and procedural parameters associated with 30-day mortality following ECMO. ⋯ The peak of serum lactate under ECMO in the first 24h predicted 30-day mortality in patients with ACS complicated with CS and CA.

Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) has been associated with reduced risk of myocardial injury in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery, but uncertainty about clinical outcomes remains, particularly in the light of 2 recent large randomized clinical trials (RCTs) which were neutral. We performed a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy of RIPC on clinically relevant outcomes in patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. ⋯ RIPC did not decrease overall mortality, but was associated with less MI and acute renal failure and shorter hospitalizations in patients undergoing cardiac or vascular surgery.

Validation of the good outcome following attempted resuscitation score on in-hospital cardiac arrest in southern Sweden.
There is a great need for a simple and clinically useful instrument to help physicians estimate the probability of survival to discharge with a good neurological outcome (cerebral performance category, CPC=1) in cases of in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA). Our aim was to validate the "Good Outcome Following Attempted Resuscitation" (GO-FAR) score in a different country with different demographics than previously investigated. ⋯ The GO-FAR score accurately predicted the probability of survival to discharge with CPC=1, even when applied to a different population in another country.
