To directly correlate fluorine-18 fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (F-FDG) uptake of the iliac crest, as determined with PET, with both spatially matched histological bone marrow parameters and laboratory markers in Hodgkin lymphoma patients without lymphomatous bone marrow involvement at bone marrow biopsy. ⋯ The observations suggest increased bone marrow F-FDG uptake to be caused by red marrow hyperplasia because of anemia in Hodgkin lymphoma. Increased bone marrow F-FDG uptake is unlikely to be caused by inflammatory bone marrow changes.

Accuracy of 18F-FDG PET-CT in triaging lung cancer patients with suspected brain metastases for MRI.
Brain metastases are common in lung cancer. Whole-body 2-deoxy-2-[fluorine-18]fluoro-D-glucose ([F]FDG) PET/computed tomography (CT) is used for general staging, but MRI is the best modality for characterizing brain abnormalities. We aimed to determine whether PET/CT is suitable for selecting patients for MRI on the suspicion of brain metastases. ⋯ The sensitivity of brain PET/CT for detecting brain metastases in lung cancer was above 70%, and the specificity was very high. Thus, PET/CT may be suitable for selecting patients for MRI in diagnostic centers that do not perform routine MRI in the pretherapeutic staging workup. The agreement among experienced readers was very high.

Diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in paediatric neuroblastoma: comparison with 131I-MIBG scintigraphy.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) PET/computed tomography (CT) in paediatric patients with neuroblastoma (NB) and compare the results with iodine-131 metaiodobenzylguanidine (131I-MIBG) scintigraphy. ⋯ 18F-FDG PET/CT shows high accuracy in paediatric patients with NB and demonstrates more lesions as compared with 131I-MIBG scintigraphy.

Plantar pain is a common problem endured by most adults at some point in their life that may result in considerable disability. Plantar fibromatosis is a locally invasive neoplasm, with the development of fibrous nodules on the plantar aspect of the feet, which can remain asymptomatic for years. (18)F-Fluorodeoxyglucose ((18)F-FDG) PET/CT has been more prevalent as the imaging modality of choice for cancer patients, but the imaged field of view is often from the base of the skull to the upper thighs. ⋯ One such finding is the presence of (18)F-FDG-avid plantar nodules. This review is intended to help clinicians become aware of these potential false-positive nodules that can affect a patient's staging and management.

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) is rare, and limited data have been reported on the utilization of fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose PET/computed tomography ((18)F-FDG PET/CT) in this disease. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of (18)F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis and staging of EMPD. ⋯ (18)F-FDG PET/CT diagnosis of primary lesions in EMPD is mainly dependent on the thickness of the lesions, whereas it is more sensitive for the diagnosis of metastases.
