Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyDexamethasone intravitreal implant in retinal vein occlusion: real-life data from a prospective, multicenter clinical trial.
To evaluate the relationship between duration of macular edema associated with retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and the achievement of vision gain in patients receiving dexamethasone intravitreal implant (DEX implant) in real-world clinical practice, and to define patterns of use of DEX implant and its efficacy and safety in the treatment of patients with RVO in clinical practice. ⋯ DEX implant was effective in improving BCVA and central retinal thickness in patients with BRVO and CRVO in real-world clinical practice. The largest gains in BCVA over 6 months occurred in patients with recent onset macular edema, confirming the benefit of early treatment. DEX implant was well tolerated and had an acceptable safety profile.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyTwo-year, prospective, multicenter study of the use of dexamethasone intravitreal implant for treatment of macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion in the clinical setting in France.
To evaluate patterns of use and long-term efficacy and safety of dexamethasone intravitreal implant (DEX implant) in the treatment of macular edema secondary to branch or central retinal vein occlusion (BRVO, CRVO) in French clinical practice. ⋯ Efficacy and safety of DEX implant in the treatment of RVO-associated macular edema were demonstrated in the French clinical setting. Patients who switched from DEX implant to other RVO treatments did not have improved outcomes. The study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov with the identifier NCT01618266.

The influence of near work on myopic refractive change in urban students in Beijing: a three-year follow-up report.
To investigate the influence of daily activities on myopic refractive change and myopic onset in Chinese urban students. ⋯ In this cohort, children with a greater near work load at baseline exhibited more myopic refractive change and were also more likely to develop myopia. The protective effect of outdoor activity on myopic refractive change was not observed.

Fiat Lux: the effect of illuminance on acuity testing.
To determine the effect of changing illuminance on visual and stereo acuity. ⋯ The findings of this study demonstrate that changes in illuminance have a statistically significant effect on VA that may contribute to test/retest variability. Increases in illuminance from 50 to 500 lx resulted in an improved VA score of 0.12 LogMAR. Differences like these have significant clinical implications, such as false negatives during vision screening and non-detection of VA deterioration, as the full magnitude of any change may be hidden. In research where VA is a primary outcome measure, differences of 0.12 LogMAR or even less could affect the statistical significance and conclusions of a study. It is recommended that VA assessment always be performed between 400 lx and 600 lx, as this limits any effect of illuminance change to 0.012 LogMAR.

Pulse waveform analysis in the optic nerve head circulation reflects systemic vascular resistance obtained via a Swan-Ganz catheter.
To determine whether a pulse waveform analysis in the optic nerve head (ONH) circulation as determined by laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) can provide systemic hemodynamic values - the systemic vascular resistance (SVR) in particular - similar to those obtained by using a Swan-Ganz catheter, which is an invasive method. ⋯ A pulse waveform analysis in the ONH by LSFG may be one of the useful methods for understanding the SVR.
