ReviewUse of opioids in long-term management of temporomandibular joint dysfunction.
The long-term treatment of patients with chronic temporomandibular joint dysfunction has been challenging. The long-term use of opioids in these patients can be neither supported nor refuted based on current evidence. However, evidence is available to support the long-term use of opioids in other chronic noncancer pain states with reduced pain, improved function, and improved quality of life. ⋯ The choices include morphine, fentanyl, oxycodone, tramadol, hydrocodone, and methadone. Adjunct medication, including antidepressant and anticonvulsant drugs, can also be used. The safety of these medications has been well established, but the potential for adverse drug-related behavior does exist, requiring appropriate patient selection, adequate monitoring, and intervention when needed.

Comparative StudyComparison of the Ambu AuraFlex with the laryngeal mask airway Flexible: a manikin study.
The present study compared the Ambu AuraFlex and the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) Flexible with regard to time required for and success rates of insertion on a manikin by dental students who had never used an LMA. In addition, participants' views on ease of insertion of each device were surveyed. ⋯ The Ambu AuraFlex appears to be useful for inexperienced users because it enables quicker and easier insertion than the LMA Flexible.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyCorrelation of radiographic signs, inferior dental nerve exposure, and deficit in third molar surgery.
To identify the specific radiographic signs on orthopantomograms that are positive predictors of intraoperative inferior dental nerve (IDN) exposure and postoperative IDN deficit in lower third molar surgery. ⋯ Darkening of the root and displacement of the inferior dental canal by the root were positive predictors of intraoperative IDN exposure. Darkening of the root or the presence of 2 or more radiographic signs were positive predictors of a postoperative IDN deficit.

A retrospective analysis of submental intubation in maxillofacial trauma patients.
The aim of this study was to retrospectively evaluate the frequency, indications, and outcomes of airway management by submental intubation in maxillofacial trauma patients. ⋯ Submental intubation is a simple, safe, with low morbidity technique for operative airway management in maxillofacial trauma patients when there are fractures involving the nasal region and concomitant dental occlusion disturbances.
