Although rare, there are many circumstances in which a secure airway is needed urgently. A newly developed technique is presented for quick and efficient performance of this procedure. ⋯ Tracheotomy is an alternative to cricothyroidotomy as a surgical airway in patients with deteriorating respiratory status who cannot be safely intubated by nonsurgical means.

Arthroscopic treatment for intra-articular adhesions of the temporomandibular joint.
To introduce arthroscopic surgery of intra-articulator adhesion of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) upper compartment and evaluate its effect. ⋯ The effect of arthroscopic surgery on temporomandibular joint intra-articular adhesion was positive. It can increase the mouth's range of motion, improve jaw function, and reduce pain during jaw movement.

Safety of deep sedation in an urban oral and maxillofacial surgery training program.
To study the safety of deep sedation in an urban-based oral maxillofacial surgery training program. ⋯ The safety of deep sedation in an urban-based oral maxillofacial training program is similar to office-based anesthesia. Sedations failures may be attributed to paradoxical benzodiazepine reactions.

Dose-dependent remifentanil decreases oral tissue blood flow during sevoflurane and propofol anesthesia in rabbits.
The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of remifentanil continuous infusion on the blood flow in rabbit oral tissue during propofol and sevoflurane anesthesia, as well as its dose dependency. ⋯ Our findings suggest that infusion of remifentanil reduces TBF, BBF, MBF, UBF, and LBF in a dose-dependent manner without a significant reduction in MAP during propofol and sevoflurane anesthesia.
