Comparative StudyIntraoperative imaging with a 3D C-arm system after zygomatico-orbital complex fracture reduction.
During the repair of zygomatico-orbital complex (ZMC) fractures, the lateral orbital wall and/or the orbital floor is often reduced by merely reducing the zygoma. Intraoperative 3D imaging can help surgeons decide whether the orbit must be reconstructed as well. The purpose of this study was therefore to assess the usefulness of intraoperative 3D C-arm imaging in evaluating the adequacy of fracture reduction. ⋯ Intraoperative 3D C-arm imaging appears to be an effective tool for evaluating ZMC fracture reduction. It helps avoid additional procedures and thus helps reduce morbidity. In addition, there appears to be no need for postoperative imaging.

Case ReportsNecrotizing sialometaplasia in a patient with an eating disorder: palatal ulcer accompanied by dental erosion due to binge-purging.
This report describes a case of necrotizing sialometaplasia (NS) accompanied by significant dental erosion of the maxillary teeth of the palatal surfaces owing to chronic self-induced vomiting. This observation contributed to the determination of an immediate and appropriate provisional diagnosis of NS in a patient with an eating disorder, which subsequently was confirmed histopathologically as NS. The diagnostic challenges presented by NS associated with eating disorders and its management are discussed.

Case ReportsOrthognathic positioning system: intraoperative system to transfer virtual surgical plan to operating field during orthognathic surgery.
To introduce the concept and use of an occlusal-based "orthognathic positioning system" (OPS) to be used during orthognathic surgery. ⋯ Virtual surgical planning has improved the preoperative assessment and, in conjunction with the OPS, the execution of orthognathic surgery. The OPS has the possibility to eliminate the inaccuracies commonly associated with traditional orthognathic surgery planning and to simplify the execution by eliminating surgical steps such as intraoperative measuring, determining the condylar position, the use of bulky intermediate splints, and the use of intermaxillary wire fixation. The OPS attempts precise translation of the virtual plan to the operating field, bridging the gap between virtual and actual surgery.
