Case ReportsOculocardiac Reflex in an Orbital Fracture Without Entrapment.
Large orbital fractures in older patients are infrequently associated with an exaggerated oculocardiac reflex. This report describes the case of a patient in his 40s with a large right orbital floor and medial wall fracture without radiographic evidence of extraocular muscle compression or entrapment who developed severe nausea and bradycardia with movement of his affected eye. ⋯ After the procedure, the patient's pain was decreased, a normal range of motion was restored, and the bradycardia and nausea resolved. An explanation for induction of the oculocardiac reflex is considered in the absence of clinical or radiologic entrapment because large orbital fractures are not often considered to induce this reflex.

Effect of Flat-Plane Splint Vertical Thickness on Disc Displacement Without Reduction: A Retrospective Matched-Cohort Study.
The efficacy of occlusal splints for treating temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of flat-plane splints (FPSs) with a vertical thickness of 3 mm (VT3) and 5 mm (VT5) in treating disc displacement without reduction (DDWOR). ⋯ Both VT3 and VT5 FPSs can effectively improve various clinical symptoms of DDWOR. We suggest that VT5 FPS treatment for at least 1 year is a suitable option for DDWOR patients with joint crepitus sound and TMJ arthralgia. For DDWOR patients without joint crepitus sound and TMJ arthralgia, there are no differences between the VT3 and VT5 FPSs.

Intraglandular Transplantation of Adipose-Derived Stem Cells for the Alleviation of Irradiation-Induced Parotid Gland Damage in Miniature Pigs.
In a previous study, the authors verified the protective efficacy of adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) on the prevention of salivary gland (SG) damage induced by irradiation in mice. As a critical step before implementation in clinical practice, the present study investigated the protective effect of ADSCs in a miniature pig SG model, because miniature pigs share many characteristics with humans. ⋯ These results indicated that intraglandular transplantation of autologous ADSCs is an effective method to protect PGs against damage from irradiation in miniature pigs, which might have clinic application in the future.
