Corona Virus Disease 2019 and Paediatric Inflammatory Bowel Diseases: Global Experience and Provisional Guidance (March 2020) from the Paediatric IBD Porto Group of European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
With the current coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, concerns have been raised about the risk to children with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). We aimed to collate global experience and provide provisional guidance for managing paediatric IBD (PIBD) in the era of COVID-19. ⋯ Preliminary data for PIBD patients during COVID-19 outbreak are reassuring. Standard IBD treatments including biologics should continue at present through the pandemic, especially in children who generally have more severe IBD course on one hand, and milder SARS-CoV-2 infection on the other.

Risk Stratification and Personal Protective Equipment Use in Pediatric Endoscopy During the Coronavirus Disease 2019 Outbreak: A Single-center Protocol.
SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), is now a global pandemic. Human-to-human transmission has been documented to occur through respiratory secretions, feces, aerosols, and contaminated environmental surfaces. ⋯ We describe our center's methodology for pediatric patient risk stratification to facilitate responsible use of endoscopic resources during this crisis. We also describe our recommendations for use of personal protective equipment by endoscopists, with the goal of ensuring the safety of ourselves, our anesthesiology and endoscopy staff, and our patients.

Mitigating Risks of Swallowed Button Batteries: New Strategies Before and After Removal.
Despite ongoing efforts of the national Button Battery Task Force (BBTF), cases of major morbidity and mortality continue to be reported at a higher rate after ingestion of higher voltage and larger button batteries. Initiation of sucralfate or honey shortly after some button battery ingestions is crucial to prevent further injury while awaiting emergent removal. Endoscopic acetic acid irrigation post removal of button battery may halt deeper injury. Gastroenterologists need to be aware of the updates to the National Capital Poison Center algorithm for button battery ingestion.

Pediatric Intestinal Pseudo-obstruction: Impact of Neonatal and Later Onset on Clinical and Nutritional Outcomes.
The aim of the study was to evaluate long-term nutritional outcomes and clinical characteristics in a cohort of children with pediatric intestinal pseudo-obstruction (PIPO) at neonatal-onset (NO-PIPO) and at later-onset (LO-PIPO). ⋯ In our study, we have reported the nutritional outcome of a cohort of children with PIPO over a 30-year period showing that about 20% of patients develop irreversible intestinal failure requiring life-long PN. Nutritional and clinical outcomes seem to be influenced by the time of onset of the disease.
