Low-pressure tamponade is rare and little known with difficult clinical recognition. We report a case of this pathology in a patient admitted for abdominal severe sepsis. Pericardiocentesis led to identification of Salmonella typhimurium pericarditis. This case report emphasizes the clinical recognition difficulty and the interest of early fast echography in case of hemodynamic emergency.

[Monitoring of neuromuscular block by acceleromyography: concepts, applications and limits of use].
A recent survey among French anesthesiologists revealed that monitoring of curarization is used in approximately in 50% of cases after a unique dose of curare and in 75% of cases after repeated doses of curare. In this survey, a majority of clinicians used a quantitative monitor based on acceleromyography, i.e. that the majority of clinicians used a device from the TOF-watch(®) product line. Results obtained by these monitors depends on the model used, TOF-Watch(®), TOF-Watch S(®) or TOF-Watch SX(®), as well as if it is used for a single point measurement at the end of the operation or continuously throughout the operation, with or without calibration, and if a calibration is used, should we used Cal 1 or Cal 2? Technical specifications and their impact on results will be developed in this technical note. This will help clinicians to better interpret results obtained by TOF-watch(®) monitors in order to improve clinical decisions based on monitoring of neuromuscular transmission.

[Profile and motivations of students performing a universitary degree in 2011].
Observational study relating to the inscriptions with universitary diplomas (DU) in relation with anesthesiology and intensive care during the year 2010-2011. We had in mind to know the profile and the motivations of the students concerned. ⋯ DUs related to our specialty are much appreciated. They interest a majority of senior doctors, but also a considerable number of residents, which poses the problem of the place of these additional trainings within the framework of initial training. The principal motivations of the registered voters are to supplement their initial training or to widen their field of competence, much more than to make up a deficit of this initial training. Lastly, the total financial expenses associated with these diplomas remain important and appear inversely proportional to the incomes of the registered students.

[Fresh whole blood transfusion for war surgery: the experience of the Kabul French combat support hospital from 2006 to 2009].
The specificities of military medicine have led to the maintenance of fresh whole blood (FWB) transfusion. ⋯ In our study, the FWB transfusion was not associated with incidents. Nonetheless, this practice should be used only for exceptional situations like military conflicts where risks of FWB are lower than the absence of transfusion.
