Tetramethylpyrazine alleviates neural apoptosis in injured spinal cord via the downregulation of miR-214-3p.
To evaluate the regulation effect of tetramethylpyrazine on microRNA-214-3p (miR-214-3p) in the spinal cord injury (SCI) rats model and to elucidate the neuroprotective effect and its mechanism of tetramethylpyrazine after SCI. ⋯ TMP alleviated neural apoptosis in injured spinal cord via down-regulation of miR-214-3p.

ReviewThe impact of gut microbiota on kidney function and pathogenesis.
Chronic kidney diseases (CKDs) are a global health problem. Besides diverse leading reasons in initiation and progression of CKDs, it is evident that they might largely originate from changes in the gut microbial community (microbiota). ⋯ The present review focuses on the pathogenic association between gut microbiota and kidney diseases like CKD, IgA nephropathy, and kidney stone disease. Certainly, novel insights into the impact of the gut microbiota in kidney diseases can be helpful to develop therapeutic strategies in order to avoid and/or treat aforementioned conditions.

MiR-200a expression in CD4+ T cells correlates with the expression of Th17/Treg cells and relevant cytokines in psoriasis vulgaris: A case control study.
The main aim of this study is to investigate the underlying relationship shared between microRNA-200a (miR-200a) and its link to concentrations of Th17 and Treg cells, mRNA expressions of their specific transcription factors retinoic acid-related orphan receptor γt (RORγt) and head box protein 3 (FOXP3) and relevant cytokines in patients with psoriasis vulgaris (PV). A total of 189 patients previously diagnosed with PV were selected as the experimental group, whilst 109 healthy individuals as the control group. According to the psoriasis area and severity index (PASI), subjects in the experimental group were assigned into the severe group (95 cases) and the moderate group (94 cases). ⋯ We found that miR-200a expression, percentage of Th17, Th17/Treg ratio, IL-17 and IL-23 levels and RORγt mRNA expression are positively correlated with PASI grade, while the percentage of Treg, TGF-β level and FoxP3 mRNA expression are negatively correlated with PASI grade. The results also displayed that the percentage of Th17, Th17/Treg ratio, IL-17 and IL-23 levels and RORγt mRNA expression are positively correlated with miR-200a expression, while the percentage seen in Treg and TGF-βand FoxP3 mRNA expression are negatively correlated with miR-200a expression. Our results provided a strong evidence that up-regulation of microRNA-200a in CD4+ T cells may induce immune dysfunction through Th17/Treg cells and relevant cytokines in PV patients.

LncRNA AB073614 regulates proliferation and metastasis of colorectal cancer cells via the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.
The expression profiles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in colorectal cancer (CRC) have remained unclear. LncRNA AB073614 is known to be upregulated in ovarian cancer and glioma tissues, and is associated with the occurrence and progression of those cancers. In the present study, we investigated the lncRNA AB073614 gene expression patterns in CRC cell lines and tissue samples from CRC patients, and then analyzed them for possible associations with various clinicopathological characteristics. ⋯ Knockdown of AB073614 expression significantly inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of SW480 cells, and resulted in their increased rates of apoptosis and G1 phase cell cycle arrest, whereas overexpression of AB073614 produced the opposite effects. Finally, results of studies which used an agonist (740Y-P) and an inhibitor (LY294002) of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, as well as the results of western blot assays, indicated that lncRNA AB073614 exerts its effects by targeting the PI3K/AKT-mediated signaling pathway. Taken together, our data indicate that lncRNA AB073614 acts to prevent CRC progression by affecting the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway, and may be useful as a novel prognostic or treatment agent for CRC.

SRPX2, an independent prognostic marker, promotes cell migration and invasion in hepatocellular carcinoma.
Sushi repeat-containing protein X-linked 2 (SRPX2), a novel chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan, is overexpressed in human cancer. Recent studies have reported that SRPX2 overexpression is observed in gastrointestinal cancer, and promotes migration and invasion of cancer cells. While, the clinical significance and biological function of SRPX2 remain rarely known in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ In turn, SRPX2 overexpression promoted the activation of FAK/AKT pathway and increased MMP2/9 expression in Hep3B cells. Thus, SRPX2 contributes to migration and invasion of HCC cells probably by targeting FAK/AKT pathway-mediated MMP2/9 expression. SRPX2 potentially acts as an independent prognostic predictor and a drug-target for HCC patients.
