Increased levels of myeloid-derived suppressor cells in esophageal cancer patients is associated with the complication of sepsis.
To evaluate whether the level of myeloid-derived suppressor cells is related to the complication of sepsis after esophageal cancer surgery and whether changing the myeloid-derived suppressor cells levels can improve the prognosis of patients cancer-related sepsis. ⋯ A high level of G-MDSCs can be used to determine the incidence of sepsis in preoperative esophageal cancer patients, M-MDSCs might be effective prognostic indicators for cancer-sepsis patients, and changing the MDSC levels can improve the mortality of patients with cancer-related sepsis.

Curcumin regulates the differentiation of naïve CD4+T cells and activates IL-10 immune modulation against acute lung injury in mice.
Acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS) is one type of respiratory failure characterized by rapid onset of widespread inflammation in the lungs. Curcumin has been reported to be an anti-inflammatory factor through enhancing the function of regulatory T cells (Tregs). This study aimed to explore the effect of curcumin on the differentiation of Tregs and the role of curcumin in ALI/ARDS. ⋯ Curcumin can reduce the degree of severity of ALI and uncontrolled inflammation through promoting the differentiation of naïve CD4 + T cells to CD4+ CD25+ FOXP3+ Tregs. Curcumin promotes the conversion of macrophages from M1 to M2. The differentiation of Tregs induced by curcumin may be one source of IL-10 immune modulation.

Effects of dexmedetomidine on lipopolysaccharide-induced acute kidney injury in rats and mitochondrial function in cell culture.
To investigate the mechanisms through which dexmedetomidine (DEX) could improve the renal injury in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) and examine how TNF-α or DEX might affect mitochondrial function and renal injury. ⋯ DEX has protective effects for cells and tissues of the kidney by inhibiting oxygen consumption and hypoxia or by improving mitochondrial dysfunction via TNF-α in the renal cells. These results might point to DEX being an important new therapeutic target for the treatment of septic AKI.

MiR-155-5p exerts tumor-suppressing functions in Wilms tumor by targeting IGF2 via the PI3K signaling pathway.
MicroRNA-155-5p (miR-155-5p) has been reported to play an oncogenic role in different human malignancies; however, its role in Wilms tumor (WT) remains unclear. ⋯ Taken together, these findings suggest that miR-155-5p functions as a tumor suppressor in WT through inactivating the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway by directly targeting IGF2. Thus, miR-155-5p might be a novel therapeutic target for WT.

GC-MS based metabolomic profiling of lung tissue couple with network pharmacology revealed the possible protection mechanism of Pudilan Xiaoyan Oral Liquid in LPS-induced lung injury of mice.
Pudilan Xiaoyan Oral Liquid (PDL) originated from "Pudilan" Classic Recipe of traditional Chinese medicine is one kind of anti-inflammatory Chinese patent medicine recorded in Chinese Pharmacopeia. PDL has been used clinically for treating inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract. However, due to the complex composition of PDL, its potential anti-inflammation and the mechanism remain unknown. ⋯ The correlated network was constructed by integrating potential metabolites and pathways. Aspartate and l-cysteine were selected as key metabolites and correlated proteins such as IL4I1 and ASPA were speculated as the potential target to treat LPS-induced lung injury using PDL. These results demonstrated that PDL might prevent the pathological process of lung injury through regulating the disturbed protein-metabolite network.
