Comparative StudyNoninvasive determination of aortic input impedance and external left ventricular power output: a validation and repeatability study of a new technique.
The study was designed to test whether aortic input impedance and left ventricular power output can be accurately assessed noninvasively. ⋯ Measurement of noninvasive impedance by this technique provides an accurate and repeatable assessment of mean and pulsatile cardiac load.

Case Reports Clinical TrialEfficacy and safety of propafenone in congenital junctional ectopic tachycardia.
Class IC antiarrhythmic drugs have recently been shown to be effective in some patients with atrial ectopic tachycardia. We therefore studied the efficacy of these drugs in patients with congenital junctional ectopic tachycardia. ⋯ Because of its effectiveness, safety and lack of side effects, propafenone appears to be a valuable drug in the treatment of junctional ectopic tachycardia in newborns and infants.

Hemodynamic and volume correlates of left ventricular diastolic relaxation and filling in patients with aortic stenosis.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate the hemodynamic and volume correlates of early diastolic filling and isovolumetric relaxation in patients with aortic stenosis. ⋯ In patients with aortic stenosis, left ventricular filling is essentially determined by left atrial pressure, whereas isovolumetric relaxation more closely depends on the severity of muscle hypertrophy and chamber dilation.

Comparative StudyLong-term results of percutaneous aortic valvuloplasty compared with aortic valve replacement in patients more than 75 years old.
To assess the long-term results of percutaneous aortic valvuloplasty and aortic valve replacement in elderly persons, two similar nonrandomized series of patients greater than or equal to 75 years old treated by one or the other method between January 1986 and March 1989 in the same institution were compared. ⋯ The results of percutaneous aortic valvuloplasty do not compare favorably with those of surgery in elderly people, and this treatment should not be recommended.
