Malignant bone tumors are very rare entities in the bones of the hand. The histologic subtypes (chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma, Ewing-sarcoma) preferentially manifest in varying regions of the skeleton. Chondrosarcomas are the most frequent malignant bone tumor type in the hand. ⋯ A definitive treatment of malignant bone tumors should be carried out in specialized centers, as these tumors are rare. Surgical therapy is completed by chemo- or radiotherapy, if required because of histologic subtype and local or systemic spreading. Safe margins of tumor resection should be preferred to function-preserving treatment for tumors of the hand while the preservation of functional units should be pursued whenever possible.

Case ReportsChronic, refractory CRPS involving 3 limbs: a case report.
We report the case of a 26-year-old woman with CRPS involving consecutively 3 extremities during 8 years. None of the treatments used was effective and each CRPS episode resulted in persistence and chronification of the disease. We suggest that this patient presents a specific subtype of the disease, called "chronic, refractory CRPS" which is extremely severe, disabling and resistant to treatment.

[Early functional treatment of intra-articular fractures of the proximal interphalangeal joint of the finger using a modified traction device].
Treatment of intra-articular fractures of the middle phalanx is both difficult and controversial. We report our experience of using a modified dynamic traction device (mTD) utilizing only one pin in the head of the middle phalanx and thus facilitating further open reconstructive surgery at the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIP). The pin does not necessarily have to be inserted in the movement axis of the joint. ⋯ Dynamic traction with the help of the modified traction devices is suitable for treating intra-articular fractures of the proximal interphalangeal joint, as demonstrated by a comparison with the literature. Patients who underwent additional open surgery showed less favorable results. The present method has the advantage that only one wire needs to be inserted subcapitaly at a distance from the fracture in the middle finger and this facilitates further surgical interventions.
