[Do we need a chart of quality for websites related to cosmetic surgery?].
Convergence of medicine and Internet may be one of the most remarkable transformations in the health care business. Following the path led by the United States, the number of French websites related to cosmetic surgery is growing rapidly. In this study, we intend to assess the quality of French websites dedicated to cosmetic surgery regarding good quality criteria currently available and recommendations suggested by the French Medical Association. ⋯ The quality of websites for cosmetic surgery is poor; however, as in the USA, the number of web surfers on medical sites is growing. Online presence of our speciality should evolve. To improve medical websites, collective awareness is required. We recommend using a specific chart of quality, with recommendations rather than constraints.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Efficacy and tolerance of Algosteril (calcium alginate) versus Jelonet (paraffin gauze) in the treatment of scalp graft donor sites in children. Results of a randomized study].
Split skin graft is frequently needed in the treatment of burned patients. Scalp is often free of burns. Due to its good skin quality and important surface, scalp is a very interesting skin donor site, specially in case of children. ⋯ Changes were considered by investigators less painful with Algosteril on day complete healing (p = 0.0096). Hair growth is homogenous in both groups on day 30 and day 60 (ns). These results showed that scalp is a very interesting skin donor site and that Algosteril is of a real interest in donor site treatment.

In this study we will discuss entrapment of the median, ulnair, radial and lateral antebrachial nerves of the elbow and the forearm. Compression of the nerves may occur when they traverse a tunnel and an incompatibility exists between the diameter of the tunnel and its contents (e.g. nerves, tendons,...). ⋯ This is due to anatomical relationships changing between the nerve and its surrounding muscles, tendons and aponevroses during the motion of flexion-extension of the elbow and the prono-supination of the forearm. The possibility of this dynamic factor should be thoroughly explored during the examination through appropriate dynamic tests as described in this study.

Burns covering more than 10% of the total body surface area (TBSA) are responsible for systemic perturbations which, in very severe cases, can represent a vital risk and, in all cases, affect the wound evolution. Among these general perturbations, fluid volume and electrolyte changes, leading eventually to burn shock, have the most dramatic consequences. Burn shock is, still to day, a vital risk and can also, in case of inadequate early fluid resuscitation, results in secondary morbidity and mortality. ⋯ Finally, infection is the most frequent and the most severe complication of burn injuries. Everything have to be done to avoid bacteriological contamination including architecture, equipment's, care procedure, nutritional support, types of wound dressing and most importantly surgery. Surgical procedures have to be done as earliest as possible to excise necrosis and cover the wound.

Mortality predictive factors of burned patients are analyzed in a population of 1929 patients by the statistical method of logistic regression. Among the variables studied (total burn skin area, deep burn area, superficial burn area, age, sex, burn location, preexisting disorders), two only, deep burn area and age, have been retained as predictive factors which, when associated, allow to classify 94.47% of the patients in either survival or death group. The prognosis weight of the deep burn area (SBP) is superior to that of the total burn skin area, yet retained in most previous studies. ⋯ A simple linear relation can be proposed as score of severity: IG = (2 x %SBP) + age. Below 80, mortality is close to zero, above mortality increases linearly up to 210, reaching 100%. This relation must be handled cautiously when comparing the severity score of two groups of patients, just as any other severity score that uses a linear relation with the burnt area associated or not to age.
