[The surgical portfolio: A new educational tool for the French plastic surgery residents?]
A recent reform of the French government has shortened the plastic surgery residency from 5 to 4 years. Until today, the evaluation and validation of the residency was shared between the local coordinator for practical skills and, after the residency, by the French College of Plastic Surgery for theorical knowledges. The new reform suggests to add a portfolio that will follow the resident during his surgical training. ⋯ As a first step we will describe the actual plastic surgery residency. Then, we will detail what the reform is going to change. At last, we will introduce the surgical portfolio, its content, its use and its goals.

Comparative Study[The advantages in using cyanoacrylate glue over skin staples as a method of skin graft fixation in the pediatric burns population].
Local postoperative care and burn wound management can present with a certain degree of difficulty in the pediatric population. While the use of skin staples as a method of skin graft fixation is a well-known, rapid and simple method, their removal can be painful and may necessitate some sedation or even general anesthesia. We studied in this article the advantages and economic value of using the cyanoacrylate glue as a fixation method for skin grafts. ⋯ The use of cyanoacrylate glue allows rapid fixation of skin grafts and avoid general anesthesia for postoperative cares. Subsequently the length of hospital stay is reduced within 25%. The medico-economic value of glue protocol is highly significant compared to skin staples, while having similar good results and without significant problems.

ReviewOncological safety of nipple-sparing prophylactic mastectomy: A review of the literature on 3716 cases.
The objective of our study was to evaluate the risk of cancer after prophylactic nipple-sparing mastectomy (PNSM). ⋯ In prophylactic breast surgery, conservation of the nipple areolar complex does not seem to increase the risk of cancer development. However, short follow-up time and the different methodologies applied in the different studies presently preclude generalization of the technique.

The prevalence of immolation by fire in France is uncertain. We carried out a retrospective epidemiological study on immolations between 2011 and 2016 at the burn treatment centre at the hôpital Saint-Louis in Paris. We studied the prevalence and characteristics of patients entering hospital for this reason. ⋯ The majority of our cohort is composed of patients with a history of psychiatric disorders. The history of attempted suicide is also a major risk factor for committing suicidal acts by immolation. Prevention measures should be implemented to reduce this risk.

Venous thromboembolism events after breast reconstructions with DIEP free flaps in 192 consecutive case.
Patient candidates for breast reconstruction with free deep inferior epigastric perforator flap (DIEP) may present several risk factors for venous thromboembolism (VTE). Risk identification is essential for appropriate VTE prophylaxis measures to be put in place. This study aims to investigate VTE incidence after DIEP flap breast reconstruction and to assess the accuracy of the Caprini Risk Assessment Model (RAM), which is the unique score validated to assess the VTE risk for plastic surgery procedures and identify patients at high VTE risk. ⋯ Our data confirm that the Caprini RAM is a valuable assessment tool for VTE risk measurement among all patients undergoing autologous breast reconstruction. As most candidates for DIEP flap belong to the high-risk group, combined anticoagulation prophylaxis methods are required for most cases, particularly chemoprophylaxis up to four weeks postoperatively.
