Association between admission body mass index and outcomes in critically ill children: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The association between nutritional status at pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission with clinical outcomes remains unclear. We conducted this systematic review to summarize the overall impact of PICU admission body mass index (BMI) on clinical outcomes. ⋯ Our systematic review did not reveal any association between PICU admission BMI status and outcomes in critically ill children. Further investigation with standardized nutrition status classification on admission, stratified by patient subgroups, is needed to clarify the association between nutritional status and clinical outcomes of PICU patients.

Arachidonic acid (AA) is metabolized by cyclooxygenases and lipoxygenases to pro-inflammatory eicosanoids, which according to experimental research modulate tumor cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. We employed the Mendelian randomization design to test the hypothesis that higher plasma phospholipid AA concentrations are associated with increased risk of 10 site-specific cancers. ⋯ These results indicate that AA may be implicated in the development of colorectal and lung cancer and possibly esophageal cancer. Treatments with plasma AA-lowering properties should be evaluated for clinical benefit.

The preoperative body composition and bone mineral density (BMD) have been reported as prognostic factors for several cancers. However, the prognostic impact of the preoperative body composition and BMD for resected distal cholangiocarcinoma (DCC) remains unclear. ⋯ A preoperative low SMI and low BMD were independent prognostic factors for resected DCC.
