Pilot study of a new mathematical algorithm for early detection of late-onset sepsis in very low-birth-weight infants.
Diagnosis of late onset sepsis (LOS) in very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants relies mainly on clinical suspicion, whereas prognosis depends on early initiation of antibiotic treatment. RALIS is a mathematical algorithm for early detection of LOS incorporating six vital signs measured every 2 hours. ⋯ RALIS has a promising potential as an easy to implement noninvasive early indicator of LOS, especially for ruling out LOS in VLBW high-risk infants.

Effect of magnesium sulfate administration for neuroprotection on latency in women with preterm premature rupture of membranes.
This study aims to evaluate whether magnesium sulfate administration for neuroprotection prolongs latency in women with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) between 24 and 31(6/7) weeks' gestation. ⋯ Magnesium sulfate administration given for neuroprotection in women with a singleton gestation with PPROM and without labor before 32 weeks does not impact latency.

The aim of this study is to determine the validity and reliability of neutrophil CD64 in identifying infected infants and to evaluate the impact of this marker on clinical care. ⋯ CD64 had a high sensitivity for identifying infected infants while also decreasing the number of infants that were exposed to unnecessary antibiotic use.

To determine if passive leg raising (PLR) significantly increases cardiac output in a cohort of healthy pregnant women during the third trimester. ⋯ PLR did not result in cardiac output recruitment in a cohort of healthy pregnant women during the third trimester.
