To develop and evaluate a technique and procedure of using gated-CT images in combination with PET image to determine the internal target volume (ITV), which could reduce the planning target volume (PTV) with adequate target coverage. ⋯ A technique of determining the ITV using gated-CT images was developed and was clinically implemented successfully for fractionated stereotactic lung radiotherapy.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Intercomparison of treatment concepts for MR image assisted brachytherapy of cervical carcinoma based on GYN GEC-ESTRO recommendations.
To perform a multicentre intercomparison study of treatment concepts for MRI assisted brachytherapy of cervix cancer based on recommendations of the Gynaecological GEC-ESTRO Working Group. ⋯ This study indicates the feasibility of the GEC-ESTRO recommendations. Despite different treatment concepts, biologically normalised total doses to tumour, target volumes and organs at risk were comparable.

Patient related co-factors may increase the risk of radiation morbidity. Connective tissue diseases (CTD) are among the co-morbidities that are relatively well studied and have been shown to be of potential clinical relevance for radiotherapy. The aim of this systematic review is to quantify the contribution of CTD to the risk of radiation related side effects. ⋯ CTD is associated with an increased risk of late radiation induced normal tissue reaction. The literature published to date provides some support for this assertion although most of the reports are plagued by methodological weaknesses, thus calling for a large coordinated study.

To evaluate whether preoperative hyperfractionated accelerated radiotherapy (RT) combined with major radical surgery is feasible and successful in the treatment of advanced primary head and neck cancer. ⋯ Preoperative hyperfractionated accelerated RT can be successfully combined with major radical surgery in the treatment of HNSCC. The amount of serious late adverse effects was not increased.

Comparative Study
Comparative planning evaluation of intensity-modulated radiotherapy techniques for complex lung cancer cases.
Lung cancer treatment can be one of the most challenging fields in radiotherapy. The aim of the present study was to compare different modalities of radiation delivery based on a balanced scoring scheme for target coverage and normal tissue avoidance. ⋯ This approach may allow the evaluation of different treatment options prior to actual planning, subject to validation in larger prospective data sets.
