Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently being introduced into different domains, including medicine. Specifically in radiation oncology, machine learning models allow automation and optimization of the workflow. ⋯ For commonly used applications in radiotherapy such as auto-segmentation, automated treatment planning and synthetic computed tomography (sCT) the basic concepts are discussed in depth. Emphasis is put on the commissioning, implementation and case-specific and routine QA of AI models needed for a methodical introduction in clinical practice.

Providing evidence for radiotherapy (RT)-induced effects on cardiac implantable electric devices (CIEDs) with focus on flattening filter free-volumetric modulated arc therapy (FFF-VMAT) at 6 and 10 MV as well as 3D-conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) at 18 MV. ⋯ 6 MV FFF-VMAT is safe even at high dose-rates of 2500 cGy/min, regardless whether CIEDs are located close (2.5 cm) or distant (35 cm) to the radiation beam. CIEDs should never be placed within radiation and energy should always be limited to 6 MV. At 6 MV, VMAT at high dose-rates can be used to treat tumors, which are located close to CIEDs.

To determine how ESTRO can collaborate with Radiation Oncology National Societies (NS) according to its mission and values, and to define the new roadmap to strengthen the NS network role in the forthcoming years. ⋯ The results of this survey will be used to strengthen the relations between ESTRO and European NS to promote and develop initiatives to improve cancer care.

Because of the unprecedented disruption of health care services caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO) identified an urgent need to issue practice recommendations for radiation oncologists treating head and neck cancer (HNC) in a time of limited resources and heightened risk for patients and staff. ⋯ This urgent practice recommendation was issued in the knowledge of the very difficult circumstances in which our patients find themselves at present, navigating strained health care systems functioning with limited resources and at heightened risk to their health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this consensus statement is to ensure high-quality HNC treatments continue, to save lives and for symptomatic benefit.

To explore the current practices patterns and evaluate the actual brachytherapy (BT) resources in Belgium. ⋯ Belgian radiotherapy departments often perform BT only in a (highly) selected group of pathologies, resulting in a limited number of patients treated by this technique despite the sufficient availability of BT equipment. Modern indications are often not covered, hence patients do not have regular access to recognized treatment options, possibly leading to inferior oncological outcome. BeSTRO will use the results of this survey to stimulate improvements in training, awareness, education, implementation, collaboration and cooperation in the field of brachytherapy.
