Comparative Study Observational Study
Assessment of pain during application of nasal-continuous positive airway pressure and heated, humidified high-flow nasal cannulae in preterm infants.
To assess pain and compare its severity in preterm infants during application of nasal-continuous positive airway pressure (nCPAP) and heated, humidified high-flow nasal cannulae (HHHFNC). ⋯ The application of HHHFNC in preterm infants is associated with less pain compared with nCPAP, as it is associated with less PIPP scores and lower salivary-cortisol concentrations.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the frequency, the intensity and the level of moral distress experienced by nurses working in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). ⋯ The present study provides further insight into the moral distress experienced by nurses working in Italian NICUs.

To determine the relative influence of patients' resuscitation preferences on periviable delivery management. ⋯ Gestational age is weighted more heavily than patients' resuscitation preferences in obstetricians' decision making for periviable delivery management. Misalignment of antenatal management with parental resuscitation preferences may adversely affect periviable outcomes. Interventions are needed to facilitate more patient-centered decision making in periviable care.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Rescuer fatigue during simulated neonatal cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
To assess development of fatigue during chest compressions (CCs) in simulated neonatal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). ⋯ Similarly, 3:1 C:V and CCaV CPR were also fatiguing. We recommend that rescuers should switch after every second cycle of heart rate assessment during neonatal CPR.

Case Reports
Macrophage activation syndrome in a newborn infant born to a mother with autoimmune disease.
Macrophage activation syndrome (MAS) is a complication of rheumatic disorders characterized by cytopenia, multiple organ dysfunction and coagulopathy associated with an inappropriate activation of macrophage. In neonatal lupus erythematosus, MAS is rare but fatal, requiring early diagnosis and treatment for optimal outcome. We report a case of MAS in a neonate born to a mother with autoimmune disease, improved by treatment with steroid, intravenous immunoglobulin and cyclosporine.
