Positron emission tomography (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake and prognosis in patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma: A meta-analysis.
To investigate the prognostic significance of (18)F-FDG PET imaging in patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma, a meta-analysis was conducted. ⋯ (18)F-FDG PET parameters of SUV1, SUV2, SUV Ratio, TLG and MTV may have effective prognostic significance for patients with bone and soft tissue sarcoma. (18)F-FDG PET imaging may be a promising tool to help predict survival outcomes of these patients.

We hypothesized that such prognosis is independently improved by surgery conducted within university hospitals. ⋯ This study found no improvements in long-term mortality from esophagectomy performed within university hospitals after adjustment for surgeon volume and other confounders.

To assess the effectiveness of hybrid minimally invasive esophagectomy (hMIE) in comparison with open esophagectomy (OE) in esophageal cancer treatment. ⋯ Perioperative and oncologic results after hMIE are not inferior but are even better in some aspects of treatment when compared to OE.

Patients with resectable oesophageal cancer are treated with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) followed by surgery within 3-8 weeks. In practice, surgery is often delayed for various reasons. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether delaying surgery beyond 8 weeks has an effect on postoperative morbidity, long-term survival, and pathologic response in patients treated for oesophageal ADC. ⋯ Delaying surgery beyond 8 weeks after nCRT did not significantly influence postoperative morbidity, pathologic response, and survival in patients with non-metastatic ADC. Therefore, it appears reasonable to postpone surgery beyond 8 weeks in patients who have not yet recovered from nCRT. However, if the patient is fit for surgery, postponing surgery does not have any additional advantages.
