To evaluate different T2 -oxygenation calibrations for estimating venous oxygenation in people with sickle cell anemia (SCA). ⋯ Our results confirm that sickle blood T2 values not only depend on the hematocrit and oxygenation values, but also on other hematological factors. The individual T2 calibrations minimized the effect of heterogeneity of sickle blood between different SCA populations and improved the accuracy of T2 -based oximetry. The measured oxygen extraction fraction and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen of this group of SCA participants were found to not differ significantly from those of healthy individuals.

To improve the accuracy of QSM plus quantitative blood oxygen level-dependent magnitude (QSM + qBOLD or QQ)-based mapping of the oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2 ) using cluster analysis of time evolution (CAT). ⋯ The cluster analysis of time evolution (CAT) significantly improves the robustness of QQ-based OEF against noise.

Quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) inevitably suffers from streaking artifacts caused by zeros on the conical surface of the dipole kernel in k-space. This work proposes a novel and accurate QSM reconstruction method based on k-space low-rank Hankel matrix constraint, avoiding the over-smoothing problem and streaking artifacts. ⋯ The suggested ALOHA-QSM algorithm successfully solves the 3-dimensional QSM dipole inversion problem using k-space low rank property with no anatomical constraint. ALOHA-QSM can provide detailed brain structures and accurate susceptibility values with no streaking artifacts.

To enable free-breathing whole-heart 3D T2 mapping with high isotropic resolution in a clinically feasible and predictable scan time. This 3D motion-corrected undersampled signal matched (MUST) T2 map is achieved by combining an undersampled motion-compensated T2 -prepared Cartesian acquisition with a high-order patch-based reconstruction. ⋯ The proposed approach enables free-breathing whole-heart 3D T2 mapping with high isotropic resolution in about 8 minutes, achieving accurate and precise T2 quantification of myocardial tissue in a clinically feasible scan time.

High-resolution isotropic T2 mapping of the human brain with multi-echo spin-echo (MESE) acquisitions is challenging. When using a 2D sequence, the resolution is limited by the slice thickness. If used as a 3D acquisition, specific absorption rate limits are easily exceeded due to the high power deposition of nonselective refocusing pulses. A method to reconstruct 1-mm3 isotropic T2 maps is proposed based on multiple 2D MESE acquisitions. Data were undersampled (10-fold) to compensate for the prolonged scan time stemming from the super-resolution acquisition. ⋯ The proposed method addresses the inherent limitations associated with high-resolution T2 mapping and enables the reconstruction of 1 mm3 isotropic relaxation maps with a 10 times faster acquisition.
