Two Hundred Sixty Pediatric Emergency Airway Encounters by Air Transport Personnel: A Report of the Air Transport Emergency Airway Management (NEAR VI: "A-TEAM") Project.
Effective airway management is the cornerstone of resuscitative efforts for any critically ill or injured patient. The role and safety of pediatric prehospital intubation is controversial, particularly after prior research has shown varying degrees of intubation success. We report a series of consecutive prehospital pediatric intubations performed by air-transport providers. ⋯ Prehospital pediatric intubation performed by air-transport providers, using rapid sequence intubation protocols, is highly successful. This effect on patient outcome requires further study.

Initiating Inhaled Steroid Treatment for Children With Asthma in the Emergency Room: Current Reported Prescribing Rates and Frequently Cited Barriers.
The objective of this study was to determine how frequently emergency department (ED) physicians prescribe inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) and describe commonly cited barriers. ⋯ Emergency department physicians report low rates of ICS prescribing. Commonly cited barriers include unclear guidelines, believing that long-term medication prescribing is not within their role, and inability to see patients in follow-up. Addressing guideline discrepancies may improve preventive care delivery in the ED.

Violating Traditional NPO Guidelines With PO Contrast Before Sedation for Computed Tomography.
Administration of PO contrast within 2 hours before sedation for abdominal computed tomography (CT) is controversial because it violates American Society of Anesthesiologists guidelines that recommend 2 hours of fasting for clear fluids before sedation. ⋯ Administering oral contrast material within 2 hours of propofol sedation for abdominal CT in children seems to be relatively safe compared with those sedated after traditional NPO time frames.

Case ReportsA sewing needle within the right hepatic lobe of an infant.
Intrahepatic foreign bodies are extremely rare before 6 months of age. We reported a case of a 5-month-old boy with a needle-like foreign body in the liver. The foreign body was incidentally found in the right hepatic lobe on the x-ray image. ⋯ At laparotomy, a tiny scar was recognized in the upper surface of the right lobe of the liver, confirming the migration route. Postoperative course was uneventful, and the child was discharged on postoperative day 10 and is thriving perfectly 2 months after surgery. We reviewed the clinical issues of intrahepatic foreign bodies and briefly discussed its approach and implications.

Review Case ReportsSymptomatic Meckel's Diverticulum in Newborn: Two Interesting Additional Cases and Review of Literature.
This study aimed to review the literature about symptomatic Meckel's diverticulum (MD) in the neonatal period with 2 additional uncommon cases. ⋯ Bowel obstruction and pneumoperitoneum are the most frequent clinical manifestations of symptomatic MD in the newborn. Surgery is required for a definitive diagnosis and successful outcome.
